Received this in an email from a mate in Long Island...thought it might interest other Nutters.

WOW! Michigan monster

Buck found dead in Southern MI, near Clinton in the area of M-52

Buck was found dead by a lady while walking her dog.
Called friend to come and get it out of there before it would start stinking she did not even notice whether it was a buck or doe. Just wanted it away from her yard.

Friend shows up and is blown away (obviously). Friend does the right thing and calls other people and police officer to obtain the proper tag to possess a picked up deer.

Cause of death is unknown, carcass was tore up pretty bad by animals.

Apparently it had been there a while. However, it was only a short distance from the closest road.

This guy obviously knew what he had and took it to the Sheets brothers of Saline, one of them is a CBM scorer. Gross green scores are 253"-258", that will make this the new state record for Michigan.

Boone and Crockett does recognize picked up deer as records (see Missouri record/all time record).

The most amazing measurement I've heard so far is 29 1/2" inside spread!

That is one butt ugly buck...but a very decent set of antlers.

Cheers, Vince

He was a great deer, something I'd settle for seeing in the wild. I'd consider that trophy enough...

Yep...I gotta agree HJ.

They say that the cause of death wasn't obvious, maybe he was just old (I have no idea how to "age" a buck from his antlers), said goodnight and laid down, never to wake again. Well, the romantic in me likes to think that was how he went.

Whichever way he went, he is now preserved for many a long year.

Cheers, Vince

I'd like to think he went peacefully, but in Mother Nature's world deer hafta fight to the end to avoid bein' something else's food.

From what I've read on aged deer, they seem to succumb to some sort of cancer quite often. Tooth wear seems to play a big part in the demise of many older deer too.

If'n you ever figure it out, you better pack up and move to the States, 'cause you'll make a fortune over here as a guide...

I'm thinking that deer didn't die from old age !!!

As deer grow old they come to a point that antler growth and muscle tone start to diminish.

the young, sick and old feed the predators. That is a natural death for deer.

From the rack I would say it was hit by a car and went as far as it could before it collapsed and died, or shot and not recovered, possibly.

What about the rack tells you it was hit by a car???

That's like lookin' at a tire track and declaring it was made by a Chevy...

IMHO The rack tells me that this was obviosly a mature buck in prime condition or close to it. The rack doesn't show heavy deterioration or decline from age. The buck was found not far from a road so I would suspicion a road kill. You can call your tire tracks anyway you want, I'm looking at antlers.

I wanna make sure I understand...

Since he was found close to a road with a fully developed non-typical rack it means that predators, disease, weather conditions, food availibilty, genetics, etc. can be ruled out as a COD???

Again, we're all speculating, but to declare that a vehicle killed him based on the information given is a "reach" at best...
