You know, DPMS makes an "AR-10" in .260 Rem...

I have two .260 bolt guns now and the DPMS is on my wish list. I used the Rem 700 I have to take two deer this past season.

By the way Jbird, did you use that same screen name on AOL?

I was on AOL mostly back in the late 90s, I think I had a log on for a short period of time when I got my blacknerry, 2 years ago, but never used it.

I forgot about the .260, I believe someone still chambers the AR-10 in .243 Remington (I think it was one of the original chamberings for the rifle)

The Creedmoor needs a 28" barrel to reach it's advertised 2900+ velocity

Something I was concerned about, bbl. length, I am seriously thinking about an m1a1, but reports from the war state that these rifles are hard to move through tight spots quickly, so I will need a shorter barrel.

For me, the AR-10 platform is too heavy,
I agree, DPMS has their "hunter series" which I didn’t have time to look at the shot show, Equipped with Carbon Fiber to make the rifle lighter, to me it appears to be easier to break, I had my share of “fun” witch carbon fiber when I was trying to learn to fly remote control helicopter… I also have seen the AR-15 version… It’s Glued on. No.

I have a friend with a mill so I would have to have him lighten an aluminum hand guard and try to find a way to get rid of the resonance. I used to hunt with a man who was forced to carry his ar for deer due to a back injury. It was the only gun in his arsenal that didn’t hurt. This rifle was equipped with an aluminum free float tube that was LOUD when a small twig banged it. A rubber sleave later, it was better.

I appreciate the info folks, I may have to look at this super… for fun, and I put a lot of thought into a rifle chambered in 6mm br NORMA. But couldn’t afford the surgeon action and barrel I wanted. Not to mention the Accuracy international stock and nightforce optics. $6000 I think…

Looks like its back to the drawing board, the creedmore is out on bbl length, I am trying to get into this apple seed project service rifle deal and was hoping that I could run dual purpose. Might have to buy two guns…

AS far as the "black Goes... I duraCoat my ARs, One Is gray just to mix it up.

We haven't discussed the WSSM ARs which use the AR15 lower. DTech makes them for a reasonable price. I checked with him about the 6.5mm WSSM and he said to use .260 load data. I don't think you can use the 140gr bullets and still fit in the magazine but shorter ones do.

Jbird, if you ever visited the "Gun Control" chat room on AOL during the late '90s you might remember WPMike.

Have you looked at the Hogue AR stocks? Should be quiet and they say light.

Since I wasn't a customer yet, they wouldn't answer my question if the velocity data they listed came from a 24" or 28" barrel. Now that is customer service for you, wow!

wtf And did ya tell them with an attitude like that you wouldn't be one anytime soon ???

jbird, Sounds to me like you need to decide bolt or gas and go from there !!!

If you truly want a dual purpose gas gun your gonna have to realize some sacrifice might have to be made somewhere in the set up.

Most likely the situation if you want something light and fast pointing for close in but can go the distance if needed.

The 6.5 x 55 Swede is a great cartridge, but you may find it much easier locating a .260 Rem. Either will deliver a 120, 140 or 160 bullet out to 300-350 yds with authority. also, you can even get bullets liek the sierra 85 gr. for predators-although I just stick with a 120 gr. Hornady SST.
