I got a nice doe this eve with the Ar and the 62 grain Barnes TSX she didn't go 40 yards A pass through both lungs . I got this deer at the airport I hunt witch we have a ( letter of authority) from the dnr that allows us to hunt 24-7 365 with a firearm for up to 20 deer a year. Im very pleased with how the TSX performed. More meat in the freezer

Personaly I don't think I will shoot past 100yds A 62 grain bullet isn't very much weight for a whitetail it will loose energy pretty fast. Once I get it skinned I can see what it did to the ribs If I can find my camera I will get some pics of the entry and exit wound. There wasn't a massive blood trail but it was definitly a followable trail it wasn't needed here but if the deer would have ran farther I could have followed it fairly easy.

WOO HOO....congratulations Joe...way ta go mate.
The .223 with a 62 gn bullet is more than adequate for a 60 yard shot on a deer, but I would seriously think twice about a shot beyond 100 yards. As good as the .223 is, the little fella lacks punch for a deer sized animal beyond that. Would not necessarily be a humane kill. But then again...the military consider it most adequate out to 300 yards...albeit on a "thin skinned" target.
Once again mate....well done. I'll look forward to some pics mate.
Cheers, Vince

Joe, Vince, I wonder what Barnes or Gerard/Gina Schultz (GS-bullets) would say about this. They always seem to perform a little extra with their bullets, or is that just marketing? I don't have any practical experience on game with these bullets because till now I couldn't find a good load which give a decent group in my 7 mm's. But I still believe the theory behind their monolythic bullets and hopefully one day I also discover the trick to make them grouping as a jacketed bullet so that I gain enough faith to use them on game.
