Anybody have any experience with this bullet on deer or any other 60 grain 223 cal bullets. My buddy got a box of the TSXs I'm gonna load some up and try them out.

Joe

I load Hornady 60gr sp's @ .279 BC, over 26gr RL15 and CCI primers. Average about 3130 fps, unless my chrony is lyng to me. I would use them on deer with really good shot placement.

Joe, from what I’m finding out about the Barnes bullets I wouldn’t hesitate one bit. (as long as things are kept reasonable)

I’ve actually been thinking about a 22-250 and the TSX as a combo!!!
Let us know if ya do it!!!

Where did you say you like to place the shot? Shocked

JK - I had a buddy shoot a small buck with his AR a few years back. Shot placement was vital with a 55 JSP. New bullets are better designed now but still pretty light.

Barnes recommends a minimum twist rate or 1-9" for the 62-grain TSX. Since most 22-250s are 1-14" I would imagine that accuracy might be pretty disappointing.

Hey Joe, the load I gave you earlier was for my .223 that has a 1:11 twist, 22" barrel.

Joe - you will love the TSX's - I have only used them in .30 - but I am way impressed with them - my .06 will not even allow me to look at a box Nosler anymore - my other rifles remember where they came from so they aren't as snobby as my Winchester and do just fine with whatever. TSX's will knock the fight out of most game.

I wouldnt want to take a chance with hitting the shoulder with a bullet this light so Shot placement will be in the lungs.

Personally I would try for right behind the ear or skull/upper neck area for primary shot placement or heart shot for a secondary with this load out to 200 yards. At that distance it's still carrying approximately 850 ft. lbs. of energy.

My Ar is not scoped so Im using Iron sights .(imo) the Lungs gives me the largest kill area with no heavy bones. That TSX should open up quickly and give a great deal of shock. I take out the Lungs and he shouldn't go far Smile

Not sure a Texas heart shot would take him down.. Very Happy

I think you are realizing the accuracy potential of the AR platform. I cannot use a .223 on deer in IL but if I could... I would be confident to take D hoffmans suggestion and go for the spine shot on the neck. I can put 10 shots inside 2 1/2" at 200 yards with iron sights on my AR from a sitting position. I would rather anchor the deer where it stands than take a chance at having to track it for a mile or so while it bleeds out a .22 hole.

I took a spine shot on a doe with my .44 mag 629 once .... The doe was standing on the county line and I had to drop her in the county where I had the tag. Laughing
