Looks like we've got some unexpected company in the area! These sightings are around 10 miles from me, not too far from where I grew up, and appear to be coming this way. Where did I put that Guide Gun...

It looks as if your officials are already taking corrective action. One of my co-workers who lives in Steamboat Springs - 2 winters ago had a bear make a den and hibernated underneath his deck - DOW did nothing and told him it would move off when it woke up in the spring. Okay, I kind of have a problem with that answer and unfortunately, with the close proximety of his house to the ski area - would have been difficult to leave the blood trail on the snow from under his porch on out of the yard - hopefully our DOW guys have not been transferred to your area.

Well Hi Sly Elk. You decided to join us again?

More then likely you can blame it on humans intruding into their habitat and not enough hunting. No longer frightened of us...

Most often they trap them and haul them off to a different area. As they drive off you can see the bear looking out the back of the live trap saying..."I'll be back"...

Hey Bushy - I am back, but it has been touch and go - Uncle Sam wants more money, so I have been killin' more rats than usual to keep up with "The Man". I try to visit the site now and then. Just spent the last two weeks in Canada for meetings etc.. As long as our Canadian brothers never get rid of Don Cherry (he is in a class by himself, but if you had to liken to something, I would say he is the John Madden of Hockey - but better), Molsen Canadian and most of the provinces - they will always have my heartfeldt thanks!

So far as the critters, I remember working a couple years down in Miami, between the heavy rains filling up the canals and also the reptile mating season, we used to get our fair share of gators crawling on the jobsite and under the office trailers - they usually took them out and destroyed them as once they relocate them, they usually ended up right back where they started. I agree with you that the bear will be back if relocated - usually anyway- they know their way around a BBQ and other goodies they can get their paws on and get some nourishment or an easy meal.

There's been some bear sightings in Chillicothe also. That makes 2 different places in the area now that they've been seen. So, I turned to my wife and said, all the more reason to be carrying a gun. Of course her answer to that was why. Then I asked her how she would feel if she was to walk outside for some reason and come face to face with a bear with nothing to defend herself with.

More Bears than people in Ely.
Grew up with them, and worked with Lynn Rogers before he went Hollywood with his Bear Studies.

What is all of the fuss??
Just keep away from Mom and her Cubs.

I'll meet you next spring, and give you some walleye fishing that you can only dream about.

I just got my Seliga Canoe down, and cleaned it up for some canoeing this weekend.

My Son Ben and I were just planning some duck and goose hunting trips for this Fall.

Can't wait for the best time of the year.

Eric

You might have bitten off more then you can chew there. Try as I might I just cannot catch walleye, I have only caught 4 or 5 in my life!!!! My dad is out around Devils lake right now and the fishing is great they have caught several 24 to 28 inchers this week. and the norhterns are going crazy to. I have a knack for catching the snot rockets. I have yet to get my 25 pounder for the wall yet.

Every time I get in a canoe someone always decides that the canoe will look better upside down. That why I only use jon boats for duck hunting.

I know if there was a rise in the bear population around here I wouldn't be going for walks with out some type of repellent most likely a large revolver!!!

Had some bear issues in Wa. as them growlers kept eating the trash.

Pop's tried everything to keep the lids on. Bungees, straps, you know the drill.
He even had some cow bells on springs....

Then he tried that practical joke trick. The one with the washers on the rubber bands in an enveolpe. He rigged this lid so when it pulled off the washers spun and razzzed on the lid. Scared the crapola outta those things and he'd call me everytime one would wheelie down the hill away from the cans... Laughing

Worked for a while, then they got used to it and, ate the rubber bands. Confused

My brother-in-law used to live up near Big Bear, Calif. He put up a single wire electric fence around his trash cans. He said that you've never seen anything like it until you see a bear running down the road with half of your fence.

His bears languished in his fish pond outside his back door on hot days...

Sis lives outside Kalispell- Blackies frequent their hot tub, front porch and, this tree outside the dining room as they climb it and peer in seeing what's (or who maybe?) to eat. I told 'em I aint coming over for dinner lest I can bring my Alaskan.

I've got some pics at home of this and if I remember them I'll bring them in and scan 'em and post 'em up.

I told her she needs to discourauge them things. She thinks it's 'cute'. I think it's a home invasion waiting to happen.

Also going up in a few weeks for a vistit. Might be taking "Junior", my Alaskan, and some nice hot 300gr loads, just in case. Very Happy

WOW....we don't have that sort of problem out here in Oz...although we do have some nasty home invasions...mongrel crims...its hard to comprehend being being invaded by critters that will eat you.

Sooo....from my perspective...it does sound kinda neat having big wild critters like that dropping in for a visit...a bit like the polar bears in that town in Alaska.

Cheers, Vince
