|
[i]If I have a SAA Colt 44.40 and a Smith and Wesson Model 29 .44 mag then can I create loads for both .44 mag and .44 special and also make up a load to be used in the 44.40 and do it all with the same loading die set???
For instance can I use say a 200 grain bullet and a popular smokeless powder and a loading table for the 44.40 to create a good target load for the 44.40 gun? Then shoot that same bullet in the 44 mag pistol? All of course made using that one die set?/

Welcome to Hunting Nut Shankmiester !!!
The 44-40 is a bottle neck cartridge so the dies are not interchangeable with the 44 mag and special.
The 44-40 also uses a different diameter bullet. It is .427, the mag and special are a .429 diameter.
The mag and special can be set up to use the same dies with the use of a spacer. Most 44 mag die sets come with the spacer but check to be sure.
As for the powder, there are a number of them out there that will work on all three.
