Ok so, there has been alot of political discussion going on... enough that i've been getting some requests to create a political forum for those discussions. I'm not sure where I come down on the subject yet... politics can be EXTREMELY polarizing and I am worried about people getting offended.
Personally, I've stayed out of a few discussions primarily because I'm afraid of the perception of someone in authority disagreeing.
So basically I'm asking for input, to gage how strong of desire there is out there for such a forum, if we need any additional rules or what-not.

That's a good idea for a poll to get everybody's thoughts on it. For the most part, most of our members try to be considerate of other members "witch they should be" I think that is what separates HuntingNut from other forums. Ya could give it a try if people get disrespectful pull the plug. I think it would be good for NRA bulletin's / firearm bills and such.

The General Topic forum has served that purpose in the past and seems to have handled it just fine. I don't post all that much, but I stop in and read everyday so I could understand separating politics if the forum was being overrun and not allowing room for other posts. That doesn't appear to be the case here so I don't see that it's needed.

I abhor politics - I hate people - I want to go bush now!
Seriously, I think there is politics in everyone of us,
here in the Land of Oz we have our share of those who presume to rule over us and force an opinion over our interest.
But I am not here for that reason. the main reason I came to this site is to talk and discuss about GUNS, SHOOTING and HUNTING.
I do not mind some good natured bantering and opinion about some current affairs, but having them shoved in my face day in day out is not what I enjoy.
There are a lot of forums one could join if one is interested on those, I do not join them because I do not find them interesting.

Mr. Dallan...You own this site? I didn't know that...I just thought you were one of the guys that frequent this site.
I thought that the subject of politics fit quite nice in the "General" topic. I really see no reason to start a political topic and have it run away...

I’m not against having political debates/discussions every now and then but ............................
I come here to get away from the daily B.S. !!!
I vote No

I voted no, sure we talk politics at times but the last thing we need is a section dedicated to telling people off. The occasional political topic can be in good fun but to make it a focus of a gun and hunting website? Nah there are more dedicated forums out there that deal with the legal and political aspects of our sports.
Plus talking politics can be tough when you have people from all over on the board.

I visit the SASS board were political discussion has been banned. I remember that board before the ban and I was there when it was decided to be banned due to "trolls" starting arguments and watched the discussions degrade into childish name calling and other infantile behavior. When the discussions were kept mature, respectful and informative it was a pleasure. I voted yes, but only if it is kept at an mature level.

We have the general topic forum to blow off a little political steam once in a while; I think that's enough. I'll argue politics with the best of them, but I'm like D, I don't think we need a banter forum.

I think that it's good to have that forum Dallan.
I really don't think because of any arguments.
We have great folks around here, who pretty much agree on everything, and when we do get someone who is in the center to center left, we manage to chase them out of here quickly.
BUT there are times that I get my belly full of politics, and with a Political Forum, I can avoid it if I want to, and just converse with folks who want to blow themselves up on the Reloading Forum.
Thanks for the poll Dallan.
Do what you think is best.

We have the same saying here. I think it is a bad idea. This is a hunting and shooting forum and I think we should keep anything politics strictly hunting and shooting on topic about current legislation. The General section covers that well.
I asked several times for a turkey section and we don't have that yet. I think the politics should be way down the line from turkey hunting here at Hunting Nut.
A politics section world be bad for HuntingNut and open a can of worms for arguments and bad feelings. Keep it off our friendly board!
