1895,
I know you said wheels however the car manufacturers make the car as they wish as they provide you with a COMPLETE ready to go package when you buy your car. A Operating system manufacturer does not. Only thing a car company really needs to care about is that the tires which are a replaceable item are easy to get, just as the windshield wipers.
Think of the Operating System supplier as a aftermarket car parts supplier, they both service whats already out there, but if a Operating system manufacturer who is already established does not provide a way to allow their customers to use their product on pre-existing hardware then they are well idiots. Would be like a car stereo company making Stereo systems that don't fit on any of the current cars but then expect the car companies to manufacture their cars or modify the cars to meet their aftermarket specs.

'Mitri, forget it, you obviously missed my point. Besides the computer I purchased in 1999 came as a package including printer etc.

Here’s the way I see it !!!
Why should anyone expect Microsoft to update the driver for Joe’s HP PSC all in one when HP quit making and selling them.
(not picking on you Joe, nor did I take it your complaining)
Do any of you have any idea as to how many obsolete and discontinued printers or other hardware for that matter is out there ???
Everyone I here complaining about printers not working are dealing with discontinued printers.
Printers are cheap these days.
Wal-mart alone list 14 printers (HP, Cannon, Lexmark) from $20-$50.
Most PC’s today come with a free printer. Mine did !!!
At some point you have to except change. Vista is that change in computers weather you like it or not.
Also, I for one would not buy a 2009 Vette and expect or even want to put rims from my 1999 Vette on it !!!

I build my own computers so getting a "package" does not happen.
However if the computer game in a package with Vista its the bundler/assembling companies job to make sure it all works together right and services any incompatibility issues with their bundle. If you upgrade to a newer software or you upgrade the hardware then the computer bundling company is off the hook at that point.
My point simply was Microsoft expected the world to bow to them and cross to the new OS on Microsofts term. This is why things went bad. It was Microsoft themselves who did this with Vista, when a simple system they used to have standard up until XP would have made the hardware "issue" a non-issue for their users.

I don’t argue that one bit !!!
Quit thinking like a consumer for a minute and think like a businessman.
Big business learned a long time ago to stop making things last as long as they did.
Large appliances is a excellent example. It use to be you could buy a washer and dryer and get a service life of about 20-25 years.
Today if you get 5 years and then have a problem, it’s time to replace them.
Point is, why sell you something every 20 years when I can sell you one every 5 instead.
With a company like Microsoft, it’s a no brainier, 90+ % market share why not force everyone to update. Look at how many more OS’s they just sold !!!
Like I stated in a prior post, I don’t like it and I don’t agree with it, and I’m definitely not trying to defend them.
It’s just a way of doing business these days !!!

Chambered,
Your argument would make sense IF drivers for newer versions worked in older versions of the OS, which they don't so software wise you'll eventually have to upgrade to Vista/Windows 7 or go to Linux.
Also Microsoft does not make any of the hardware in your computer, so what would they care if you push your hardware to last 20 years?

I had the same problem with an HP printer when I went to XP. HP didn't want to provide a new driver for a printer/copier/scanner that I'd paid over $500 for! I don't blame Microsoft for that, but I wasn't too happy with HP!

I hear ya mike I agree 100% . I wasn't happy either HP offered no update for mine to work with VISTA. It sucks to have to replace it when there's nothing wrong with it

That is different though, you can go to the store and get tires for your car or truck easily because there are common standard sizes that get fallowed.
Think of the specific hardware as a piece of computer hardware. The Corvette is made as a complete package including everything you need to get it on the road and running, but they are smart enough to have standard tire sizes so you can pull up to a service station and if they carry any real selection of tires you'll leave with new ones.

Not even close to true.....
Think of 'Vette tires (Yes TIRES)as being engineered to perform to certain specs based on their position on the vehicle....
In order to obtain maximum performance from the tire AND the vehicle, they need to be operated as a matched set....you order a certain tire for a certain position on the car....

Thank you hunterjoe for catching that, most people don't realize you need matched sets on some vehicles. You do do your homework before you post, don't you? Furthermore front and rear wheels on many GM performance vehicles are not interchangeable, rear will not fit front etc. It's been that way since the 90's. No rotating tires on certain T/A, Corvette for example depending on options. Thanks again hunterjoe, I was wondering if anyone would catch that or just take my wheels/tires analogy for granted like some do!!
Now where were we............???????????? ..............Oh ya .. puters!!!! I worked on vehicles long before puters and long after they were on every vehicle and they weren't interchangeable between different models from the same manufacturer either or from one year to the next!!!!!! Damn puter/software manufacturers........ why couldn't they all be the same. ................ ??????????

That is over my head I know very little about cars.

1895, Yes I caught it too, but because this is a hunting/shooting site........................
Maybe you should have also mentioned the reasons for not being able to rotate the tires !!!
ZO6”s (that’s a corvette for those of you that don't know) came with 18” rims in the front and 19” in the rear, The rear is wider than the front, they are Z rated for speed therefore they are also a directional tire.
As for the puter, lets not forget it's tunable for peek performance !!!
Since we are on the subject of cars !!!
Does anyone know how many cars came from the factory with a LS7 under the hood ???
