I have to disagree with your take on American beer lesterg3:

I too am somewhat of a devotee to what we call "Real Ale" here in the UK.
If you're referring to the watered down gnat's pee produced by the major breweries, then you're right (ours is almost as bad) but I've sampled some fine microbrews during my visits to NM that are up there with the good stuff over here.

I have one issue though: WHY take a perfectly good ale & chill it to the point where you can't taste it?
I have to buy several beers & let them sit & warm up to where the taste develops before drinking them (that's my excuse for how many I have & I'm sticking to it..... Very Happy ).

Lester,

American beer can be quite good. As can American Whiskeys.

By the way American's did not change the name from Whisky to Whiskey, but instead in the Scots did not want people to confuse what was then cheap Irish whiskey with their better stuff and dropped the "E". In the US with the Irish influence when Whiskey came over, they kept the Irish spelling but with the strong British/Scottish roots in Canada they used the alternative Scottish spelling.

Personally I got to try a bit more Scotch last Thursday when I went out to dinner with a cute girl. Was pretty good.

As for myself, I picked up a little young thing to keep me warm through the holidays.

A bit younger (less then half the age of the girl I took out)

So shes alittle younger then I'd normally go for to keep around for Christmas but she'll have to do at 15 years old.

.

.

Wait for it ....

.

.

A bottle of Dalwhinnie 15 year old single Malt Scotch that I tried for the first time on my date on Thursday. Laughing

And here you probably thought I was talking about a girl. Very Happy

Dimitri

Yes I was generalizing about the mass producers here in the US. Yes you are correct, I too have visited many Micro Brewers that produce some exceptional suds. Unfortunately, I live in a very small town a good distance away from a metropolitan area, so getting there can be difficult. At the local stores they will sometimes carry Bass, or Guinness and while these bottled stuff pales in comparison to what I had in the UK it is far better than US mass produced. Also, if you get a chance try Samuel Adams.

Yes, my history lesson was a little more than tongue in cheek, trying to be funny, I guess. But, check out your history of US immigration. The Irish went to the North ( and became the Carpetbaggers that moved South), Scots populated the South, and only in the South is good Whisky made in the US. The South may yet rise again!!!

In any case I was happy to hear that the young thing was OK, I really hate recommending anything as good.

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to you, and your loved ones.
