The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama's pastor for the last 20 years at the Trinity United Church of Christ on Chicago's south side, has a long history of what even Obama's campaign aides concede is "inflammatory rhetoric," including the assertion that the United States brought on the 9/11 attacks with its own "terrorism."
In a campaign appearance earlier this month, Sen. Obama said, "I don't think my church is actually particularly controversial." He said Rev. Wright "is like an old uncle who says things I don't always agree with," telling a Jewish group that everyone has someone like that in their family.
Rev. Wright married Obama and his wife Michelle, baptized their two daughters and is credited by Obama for the title of his book, "The Audacity of Hope."
An ABC News review of dozens of Rev. Wright's sermons, offered for sale by the church, found repeated denunciations of the U.S. based on what he described as his reading of the Gospels and the treatment of black Americans.
"The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people," he said in a 2003 sermon. "God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme."
In addition to damning America, he told his congregation on the Sunday after Sept. 11, 2001 that the United States had brought on al Qaeda's attacks because of its own terrorism.
"We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye," Rev. Wright said in a sermon on Sept. 16, 2001.
"We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America's chickens are coming home to roost," he told his congregation.

This is some serious stuff here. The U.S. better wake up! The uneducated masses (sheep people) will out-vote us if we don't rise up. I fear for the world that our children and grand-children will be forced to live in.

This story is one of the first things I saw on TV this morning. Let's see how Obama squirms out of this one... That said, there are some folks who'd vote for him no matter what and I find that rather depressing.

Barack Hussein has already begun to distance himself from the Trinity United Church of Christ. He has said that Rev. Wright's quotes in no way reflect his personal views. This is after he renounced his Muslim upbringing to declare he is a Christian (member of the TUCC) for the last 20 years. Now he claims his "mentor" has no influence on his political views.

I just saw Obama tap dance on H&C tonight.
I'd like to believe that Obama hasn't heard the Paster say these things, but I don't believe him.
About 15 years ago, the Parish that I belonged to got a new Priest. At the time I was a member of the Parish's Knights of Columbus, was on the Liturgy Committee, and was also the Parish's Trustee.
First, the Priest stopped the Knights from using the Church as the meeting place for my DNR Firearms Safety Classes.
Then, from the Alter, the guy says that all NRA Members should turn in their guns or they stand a chance of going to Hell.
I walked out of that Mass, and never returned.
The next week Ben, Judy, and Myself were attending Mass at our current Church, where both Priests hunt and shoot.
The Moral to this story is, that if a person honestly disagrees what the Pastor of Priest says about social issues, they should either leave, or assume the Pastor of Priest's views.
I made my choice and Obama made his.
This guy doesn't stand a snowball's chance in Hell of being elected President in the general Election.
I also believe that a Pastor of Priest should keep his political views away from the Alter or Pulpit.
The Alter is for preaching God's words, NOT their own political views.
I have never agreed with the Evangelical Pastors talking politics from the Pulpit either, even though I agree with most of the things that they say.

EROCK,
I may have to disagree with you on this one. Barack Hussein is a VERY powerful speaker. The youngsters I've talked to will vote for him based solely on that. He's a great orator. It proves what I've been saying for years, Say it loud enough, with enough conviction, and it doesn't matter what you said.....

One of my college buddies served in the Illinois Senate with Obama. He only says when peole find out what he really believes, they will say he is a nut !
The fresh face of change is suddenly looking very much like a political hack who will say anything to pander to the masses while promoting his own private agenda.
McCain is a bit flaky but I do not believe he is dangerous to America.
The comments of the Pastor and Obamas wife and my friends comments are painting a pretty ominous picture to me.
Now Hillary ---- that is a subject for another thread.

Elyboy,
We got a new preacher in the Church of Christ in the town I live near about 10 years ago. The first sermon the new preacher said that if you didn’t go to the Church of Christ, you were going to hell. I got up and walked out.

I heard a radio plug today for Obama...targeting our young college students saying that he is going to wipe away their college depts among other promises...it is scary that a lot of these kids probably don't know the real truth and will back this moron. We got to get the truth out.

Obama has sure had to back peddle trying to distance himself from that "old" pastor.
From talking to some people I know that tend to vote for Dems, they wish a third candidate was in the running because they no longer will vote for Obama and they won't vote for Clinton. Some of these folks for the first time in their life are going to vote for a Republican.
How did Obama ever get elected for anything?
