As for my .35 remington, well I took it to the range today and the second shot from a standing position I nailed a 200 yd gong, loud and clear. It was quit windy but I was able to hit it 3 out of five times from a standing position and no rest. I guess it shoots ok. It kicks a bit more then I thought a 35 rem might but it's not bad. I had my 45-70 along as well and it kicks an awful lot harder. I had a fun time at the range this morning and I was the only one there. |
Awesome. Just one question mate....how big is this gong? 48"....60".....72" in diameter??? Seriously though, its no mean feat to shoot accurately standing unsupported. Well done mate.
You hit the nail squarely on the head when you said I had a fun time at the range this morning. Regardless of anything else, fun, enjoyment, pleasure is the name of the game. When I no longer derive any pleasure from shooting I'll sell everything.

So all you guys are saying that lever actions guns are a good buy? if yes which one? my dad wanted to buy a .444 cal a couple years ago but when we asked to see how big the bullets were, could have sworn that my dad almost fainted. , those are some big thumpers!

My home hunting woods Daniel, is very thick timber, where a 60yd shot is long. The only guns that I have used in this type of woods are big levers. .348 Model 71, .358 Model 81BLR, 45/70 Marlin 1895 Guide Gun, and my Son Ben, likes
to use my Elk rifle the Model 70 .338WinMag.
If you are going to hunt in open areas, where you will have longer shots, I would go with a Bolt Action Rifle. I still like big bullets for this, and the .300WinMag would be a great choice because of the different types of bullets offered in the .30Cal.
For close woods shooting, you can't beat the price and knock down power of the Marlin 45/70G Guide Gun.
Hope this helps a little.

OK thanks Sir,
i already got a .300 mag and adding a 45/70 to my already full gun cabinet sounds like a good deal!

If it's made in '53 then it's got the heavy rifling instead of that micro-groove rifling. You'll have fun shooting that one, very accurate but, put the scope down and back away slowly!!!
