I bought some Sierra Pro Hunter bullets , 110gr today , and the information that came with my dyes seems unsafe

The overall length after seating is my concern , with the length they suggested seemed rather unsafe considering the fact that without much effort you could move or even remove the bullet from the case , and they never could seat strait , the bullets are the size of some pistol ammos I've seen , shorter than most 30 cal I've seen

I'm using IMR 3031 powder

what would be a safe overal length?

Gotta question, were those 110 carbine bullets, if so those are intended the the M1 carbine. I personally use them as single shot in my 30-30, but I wouldn't use them is a 308 or a 06. I think there would be too much freebore to the lands. Just my 3.5 cent worth. Dave Very Happy

The rule of thumb for seating bullets is to seat them to a depth of at least the diameter of the bullet, which in your case would be .308" into the case neck. This will stabilize the bullet in the neck. That is where I would start. Pretty short bullet for an 06, but plenty fast. I'm sure others will also have some info for you. Good luck.--tr

honestly I think they were carbine , perhaps I can exchange them , but is there a safe way to remove the bullets?

the 2 ways I know of is a kinetic style puller and the collet type. I have both styles depending on what I'm taking apart for which one I use. I load for several calibers so most of the time I use the collet type. As for bullet depth, I seat the bullet the length of the case neck if the bullet is long enough.the normal rule is the dia. of the bullet for the depth. Dave

As long as the rest of the load is safe, just seat them to a safe depth and fire them. Most stores will not exchange reloading components. Even if they were intended for the .30 carbine they will be just fine in the '06.

Like Dave, I also use them in my 30.30 for hunting. I have the 110gn HP and they are devastating on foxes, dogs, cats etc. Very Happy

I can't imagine that there would be a problem using them in the '06. As the others have said, seat them at least to the depth of their diameter. The 110gn HP I am using have a cannellure and I seat and crimp them to the cannellure. They work great in the 30.30 Win.

Guys,
The 110 Pro Hunter is a flat base spire point. The Carbine bullet made by Sierra is labeled as a carbine bullet, it is a flat base, round nose bullet and is, incidentaly, the only .308 sized carbine bullet made by any major mfg in the US. Every other carbine bullet is .307 regardless of the label.

Seat the 110 to stabalize them, load them up in the 30-06 and shoot them. They are OK, not real accurate, but OK.

I load the 110 V- max in 30-06 as well as the Hornady 110 spire pt and Speer 110 HP with exposed lead HP area. All of these are good shooters.

The V- max load is red hot running about 3311 fps and is a tack driver in my model 70. I hold a group under 1 moa out to 400 yards and the coyote in my avatar was dropped at 462 yards with the 110 V-max. I do not have my load data in front of me at work but in general I run a max load of IMR 4064 and seat to near 3.200 OAL.

I have not had a coyote take a step after being hit by one of these.

I'll try a couple , and the rest I;m gonna let a coworker use , as well as about 4 180gr factory loads , and I'm gonna fire off all my 150 gr win silver tips , I have some 150gr bullets as well , but for just target shooting I didnt get too exspensive

I am however waiting on nickel plated brass and some 167gr silver scenar BTHP's , which will be my hunting loads

I never been hunting before , but I wanna get some good loads ready when it's whitetail season

I have a load using 110g Hornady FMJ, OAL of 3.00". My 700 Rem just loves em.

The Pro Hunter 110 grain bullets are made specifically for the 30 carbine. You can use them but you have to seat them about half way into the case neck. Seat them with an O/all length of 3.0 inchesand back your powder charge 10% and work it up to find an accurate load. You may get close to the maximum load before you get accuracy but work up to it slowly.
