Well, Thanks to the actions of 1 Non resident Alien in Virginia this is gonna pretty much ruin our hobby and/or livelyhood's. Because it looks like their gonna railroad this through with out any one fighting it.
I find this funny,(not the actions, the timeing) happening right when the gungrabbers needed it too! Mad wtf

Voice your opinion of
H.R. 1022
before it’s too late!
Recently, a bill known as House Resolution 1022,
was introduced in Congress with the stated purpose,
“to reauthorize the assault weapons ban, and for other purposes.”

The “assault weapons ban” is presumably the same ban known to the firearms industry from President Clinton’s tenure, and the same ban which
expired in 2004 for multiple reasons, including the fact that federal, state and local law enforcement agency studies showed that guns affected by the
ban had been used in only a small percentage of crime, before and after the ban was imposed.

The “other purposes” in H.R. 1022, however, would apparently reinforce -- and make even more stringent -- the “Clinton ban” by outlawing many,
many more guns including:

• Every gun made to comply with the Clinton ban. (The Clinton ban dictated the kinds of grips, stocks and attachments new
guns could have. Manufacturers modified new guns to the Clinton requirements. H.R. 1022 would ban the modified guns too.)
• Guns exempted by the Clinton ban. (Ruger Mini-14s and -30s and Ranch Rifles; .30 cal. carbines; and fixed-magazine, semiautomatic, center-fire rifles that hold more than 10 rounds.)
•All semi-automatic shotguns. (E.g., Remington, Winchester, Beretta and Benelli, used for hunting, sport shooting, and self-defense.
H.R. 1022 would ban them because they have “any characteristic that can function as a grip,” and would also ban their main
component, called the “receiver.”)
•All detachable-magazine semi-automatic rifles-including, for example, the ubiquitous Ruger 10/22 .22 rimfire-because they have
“any characteristic that can function as a grip.”
• Target shooting rifles. (E.g., the three centerfire rifles most popular for marksmanship competitions: the Colt AR-15, the Springfield
M1A and the M1 “Garand.”)
•Any semi-automatic shotgun or rifle an Attorney General one day claims isn’t “sporting,” even though
the constitutions of the U.S. and 44 states, and the laws of all 50 states, recognize the right to use guns for defense.
• 65 named guns (the Clinton law banned 19 by name); semi-auto fixed-magazine pistols of over 10 rounds capacity; and frames,
receivers and parts used to repair or refurbish guns.
H.R. 1022 would also ban the importation of magazines exempted by the Clinton ban, ban the sale of a legally-owned “assault weapon” with a magazine
of over 10 rounds capacity, and begin backdoor registration of guns, by requiring private sales of banned guns, frames, receivers and parts to be conducted
through licensed dealers. Finally, whereas the Clinton Ban was imposed for a 10-year trial period, H.R. 1022 would be permanent. H.R. 1022 serves only to
take even more guns out of the stream of commerce under the guise of “protecting” the public. Whether this “protection” is a reality remains to be seen. What
is certain, however, is that your rights continue to be weakened through such one-sided and disputable “protective” measures.
Contact your U.S. Representative and urge him or her to oppose H.R. 1022 before it is too late.

ARRGGGG Mad Mad Has like no one in government read their Constitution. Granted at the time they only had black powder but still, I like my .22 auto-loader. Works great with how bad my hands are. I don't have the time to do all the calling but I do have time to write a form letter and send it to everyone.

The "Blue Dog" Democrats won't let it go through.
Sen. Jim Webb is VERY pro-gun, and so are many other Dems. that got in the last election.
Bush will veto it even if it does get passed.
We still have to write our elected officials about this crazy liberal bill though.
Good post Crackshot.
Even Gen. Wes Clark is pro-gun.

Excellent post!! Now is the time we need to turn up the heat bigtime and let our "reps" know that we won't stand for deaf ears. They can either support our rights or look for another line of work!!!GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!

The Supreme Court will eventually make a decision on this and other restrictive legislation IF it passes. I doubt it will for several reasons.

Liberals own guns, too. They adhere to the self defense principals that underpin the 2nd Ammendment.

Gays and Lesbians have disproportionate amounts of firearms and that is a contingent the Dems are not anxious to offend.

I doubt Bush would sign any such legislation and I doubt there are enough votes to overturn a veto.

Post 2008 we may find our pro gun positions either strengthened or weakened depending on the new Administration. The salient issue is to become active in the forthcoming election. Choose a candidate that reflects your viewpoints and put in some hours on their behalf. If one feels disenfranchised or alienated from The System, it is the same as surrendering. Fortunately, there are many honorable candidates that, if supported, can influence affairs.

While the pre-election rhetoric seems to be heating up too early from my point of view, it is important to get active and engage the system. We are responsible for the outcome.

Unless Fred Thompson gets into the race, there is no pro-gun candidate to work for.
We might have to get the Bushmaster to run. Vince would be great but the accent would give him away.

BUGGER....I think you are right Eric, the aussie accent and attitude would be a dead giveaway.

I would not make a "good" politician.....I have scrupples, integrity, feelings and will not toe a "party line" simply because I have been told to. I am too honest.

Cheers, Vince

Well, Vince, you have put the political problems in a nutshell! Despite the odds we can only hope that some of the better candidates will run. There are some solid conservatives in the mix, but not saying much right now. It IS way too soon!
I have to help my daughter move, so will get back to the fray on Sunday! Y'all have fun ! Smile

While it is way to early I don't think that waiting will help much for the elections. California has moved up the primary and so has I think one other state. By the time we find out what they really mean and want some of the states will have already voted and sadly possibly picked wrong.

Amid the clamor for more restrictive gun laws has emerged some rational voices. Points being discussed:

-Prohibiting resident aliens from owning firearms. They are not citizens and they are not included in the right to keep and bear arms given citizens.

-Arming campus security personnel and giving them added training.

-Allowing CCW holders to carry on campus.

- Expanding CCW to more citizens by reducing red tape and local restrictions.

Any and all of these four points perhaps would have diminished the death toll at VT.

Well unfortunately Fred Thompson may have cancer .. I really like him .. Has his head on straight ..
Yeah things aint lookin' good for us in '08 .. But maybe the two front runners on the other side could be their own worst enemy .. Lots of Dems ( and others as well ) are gonna look at Hillary as a "woman" , and lots of white Dems are gonna look at OBama as a "Black Man" , nothing more , nothing less , and with them starting so dern early , they could very well give the public burnout , something that dont take much these days .. But then we may end up with another Jimmy Carter , someone who pops up out of nowhere and wins ..
Unfortunately no Repulican that is electable is willing to sally forth , because of the quagmire in Iraq .. My take is Bush is gonna pull out of Iraq in the not too distant future , just in time to boost his ratings to help the party with the election ..
But so far none of the front running elephants are our real friends ..

If we could get Trent Lott and New Gingrich in the fray Very Happy
Mite be the answer , a couple good ole boys from down home .. Shocked
