Yep,
My folks came over on a boat in 1715, by invitation of the Crown... Now I ain't sure who invited them folks from London though.

My mothers side came in 1604-5 (cant remember what year exactly should ask my grandfather he knows) he was a French Army Captian.

Yeh, you know how those Brits are, they have a sense of humor all their own.
There we were on the frontier (free land by the Crown), building a house, when the irate landowners showed up, we spoke neither Indian or English, so we just got our butts shot off at the house warming party thrown in our honor.
Hey Vince, why did it have to be Indians? Really now, seems like I recal reading about the "Indians" having a problem "down under", with that same British sense of humor.

I see that the Brit sense of humor was not lost on all of us...
Strange, very strange

You are 100% correct Swampy old mate. The Dutch were the first Europeans to land in Australia but they didn't want anything to do with it. The Brits arrived next in 1770, landed near what is now Sydney....liked it and said..."I say old chap, what a cracking place for a penal colony." The first boat loads of convicts landed in 1788.
The poor old aborigine had no idea what was happening. They were happy wandering around the place hunting kangaroos and other wildlife, They were effectively a Stone Age nomadic people, although they'd forgotten more about the country then than we will ever know. The Brits just waltzed in, set up camp and took over. Eventually the Brits wiped out the aborigines totally in Tasmania. Spears and boomerangs don't equalise firearms.
It is only over the past 10 years or so that the Land Rights movements have started winning back the ancestoral lands.
So yeah, you could say that the aborigines "had a bit of a problem" with the Brits.
Cheers, Vince

Yep,
We share a pretty common, as in alike, heritage.
