vince...the weaver type come in all price ranges...think last set cost me ABOUT $50...and Ive never had a scope move in them...even my oldest set that have been stretched to buggery still hold ok..I actually put one old and one new on when bought last set...see Im tight with the coin too mate.
they have rail that goes across the piccanninny rail so cant move forwards...only leaves scope tube inside ring to move.

Yes mate...I’m SWMBO’s purse strings are tighter than a fish’s butt under water...and that’s watertight mate.

I’m looking around for a set of Picatinny rings that have double fixing (4 screws) to hold the top ring on. I have a set here, but they are not for a weaver or Picatinny rail...too narrow. Sad

I wasn’t really happy with the scope rings I had on the rifle, so I kept looking around for another set of rings. I found exactly what I was looking for today at one of my local gun shops...a set of Hawke brand 1” medium height rings for a Weaver mount. These rings are wider and have four screws securing the top section of the ring to the bottom section...very solid. Needless to say, I fitted them as soon as I got home.

The rifle now looks as neat as I hoped with nice clean lines and a solid mount.

Looks very nice, Vince. Good, solid rings are a must. Hope holds zero for a long time.

Always try and use the thicker paint that's on the lid,, just a drop.... Cheers

Vince,,,, One question , with that style mount are you still able ( see under) to use your battle sight..... Cheers

probably said this before mate..but anyway...be aware as your centre of scope is lots more than 1.5 inches above bore you trajectory will be interesting to compute....you may well find a dead on at hundred works better than the usual 2-3" high.

Back in the days before Loctite...you remember them, when men were men and pansies were flowers...I used to used a wee drop of nail polish...works a treat.

The Addley Precision scope mount comes with a 300m peep sight that fits in place of the micrometer ladder sight that you have to remove to fit the mount. I gives you a fixed sight option that looks directly under the rail.

Addley Precision

Elvis...I won’t know exactly where the zero will be, or a what range, until I get some rounds in target...hopefully next a weekend after I’ve done some hand loading. However, you are right...it may well be spot on at 100m now. Only time will tell mate.

Man you're braver than me to use her nail polish Scratch , or do you have your own bottle Smile ,,,,, set your self up for that one ,,,, cheers Cheers Cheers

Vince as far as the scope height goes,,, I wouldn't worry too much about that , my scope is 2 and a 1/4-inches center barrel to center scope ,,, sighted in for 200-yds, she's 2.9-inch high at 100-yds ,, about 1.3 inches high at 50-yds,EDITED 9/15/20, I'm using 174-gr Woodleigh PP ,,at 2400 fps.... 150-grain Hornady are normally within an inch or so using the same scope zero...... Not sure about longer distances as mine is a brush gun. Cheers

Well, I managed to get my newly fitted scope zeroed...and also caught up with our good mate tikkat3 at the range as well...great to see you again Pete.

I’ve zeroed the scope to put the rounds about 1.5” high at 100m, although I might revisit that if and when I get handloads sorted. I wasn’t at all happy with the results this weekend. I found some pressure signs that I didn’t like and I think it is the powder that I’m using...AR2206H. I tried a couple of loads using AR2208 (Varget) and they were much better. Time to go back to square 1 at the reloading bench.

Good to see you finally made it too the range ,,,, you may only need to back off a few grains on the powder ,, some where in the 2200-2400 fps range ,,, good luck on working the load -up pete

Hm, that is the range of speeds I got from the loads. With the 174gr projectiles velocity ranged from 2216 FPS to 2194 FPS over 5 different loads ranging from 36.9 gr to 37.3gr in .1 grain increments. These loads were ok as far as pressure was concerned. The pressure signs started to become evident with the 150gr projectiles. I put 5 loads together with them from 36.9gr to 39.5gr at 2% intervals. Velocities ranged from 2123 FPS to 2479 FPS with the pressure signs becoming evident towards the upper 1/3 of the loadings. I find this odd as the recommended loadings are 36gr - 40gr of AR2206H for velocity of 2447 FPS - 2627 FPS. My shooting buddy has suggested looking at cast boollits in the 180gr range as well as he had good results with them when he was regularly shooting 303. It’s another option.

Before I do anymore loading, I’ll check the brass for length in case they have stretched a bit, although this is only their second loading, and trim if necessary.

The AR2208 (Varget) loading provided velocities of 2418 FPS and were much more pleasant to shoot, so I may very well switch over to that powder. I don’t plan on shooting thousands of rounds from the 303, but I want it available for hunting and a bit of plinking.
