Slim, I got a crowsfoot for my torque wrench that worked. Still tinkering with the alignment and fit of the handguard. Lesson learned about buying a "no name" part... But I hate to throw away a $100 handguard so I'll get it here shortly.

Do you have barrel nut shims? The torque variation for the barrel nut is there to allow for the alignment. I stopped using a torque wrench. I get the nut as tight as I can that aligns the gas tube. I don't use a wrench that would allow me to over torque the nut.

Thanks Slim, those will come in handy! I had a couple but really need more to make this easier.

That's pretty comprehensive! I was thinking of tools and emergency repair parts but I like it!

AR 10's are fun. Aren't they, Vince. Beats smackin' that rock with a .223.

Your AR10 is brilliant mate, and the recoil from the .308 isn’t as solid as from a bolt gun. I’d happily put one in my gun safe...if we were allowed.
I remember back in 1981, the first centrefire rifle I looked at was an AR10 for the princely sum of about $250, but I ended up buying a S&W Model 19 revolver instead.

Ah yes, the AR10 - second best battle rifle chambered for 7.62x51 after the FAL... |
I'll stand with you on that Mike ,,,, I have use both off and on for close too 30-plus years . The AR's fun to shoot and have killed quite a few coyotes over the years , but the FN FAl is built like a tank,,, the old saying "The right arm of the free world"
