Abso-fricken-lootly.

Me and Loke are from the same hometown... it got "discovered" in the early 80s and has been a magnet ever since for rich yuppy, california transplants.

Had a guy come to my door a couple years ago running for city council. He went on and on about how he "knows" what the town needs, what "needs" to change etc etc.

I let him give his elevator speech then I asked "So how long has it been since you moved here from California?" ... he immediately responded with "2 years". He didn't catch that I totally guessed his origin, or that I said it deprecatingly. I bluntly told him he has no idea what made this town cool, and people like him were destroying it.

We had an old Farmer that passed away not long ago. He loved his 1950s tractor and drove it all around town. I heard more than a few neighbors mock him and wonder why it was allowed, why didn't he just move to a cheaper area, mock him for not being able to buy a nice new tractor etc etc. What those neighbors did not realize, was that some of the major new subdivision developments with $1,000,000 per 1 acre lots... all came from ground he sold. The guy was stupendously wealthy subdividing up some of his 100 acre fruit orchards.

He lived a simple lifestyle that he loved... and absolutely loved that old Massy Tractor. I miss those days. Oh and shooting robins out of the cherry trees... holy moley that was fun times for kids.

The local fruit farmers paid a bounty for magpies. A nickel for an egg, a quarter per bird. I figured out that if you wait until they are almost big enough to fly, you can get the whole nest at the bird rate without firing a shot. The #0 leg hold trap gets mamma when she comes back to the nest. Magpies and Coke bottles found on the side of the road or at Steve Myers' house bought quite a few 22 shells down at Burgess' Market.
Imagine an 8 or 9 year old kid buying ammunition today. We live in a different world.

You talking the easy stuff like recovery from surgery?

If so , things are on track, less painfull more movement, so good.

If its the marriage thing, ....... about as well as a 5 day corpse in the hot sun.

House is now on the market.
Not happy at all. Yet.

When I lived in the states late 60's early 70's a friend and I would wander up through our estate on foot with a crossman 760 airgun in plain view to the woods behind the school and thin out the starling population, we even got passed by the local police with no issues.
Nowadays a pink plastic gun is likely to panic the sheeple and get you shot.

That’s a mix of good news and bad news mate. Hang in there...time will sort both things out mate.

It’s funny, when I was in school, it was not uncommon to see young guys walking from their home to the nearest bush, in the outer suburbs of the city, with a pea rifle (.22 rimfire) to thin out the starling and minor bird populations and nobody battered an eyelid. I bought my first rifle, my Krio .22, in 1969 and travelled all over the State of NSW by train with it in a carry bag, staying in hotels and motels, including in our nation’s capital Canberra, without any problems. Try doing that today...the Police would go crazy with panic and I’d be locked up instantly for a long time.

I can remember riding down the street on my bike, .22 rifle in hand going out to the edge of the city to shoot gophers. Ride to the gun show to buy ammo .22 in hand no problem. How far have we fallen.

I wish someone would tell the "refugees" who come to the UK that & also wish they'd accept it.
Instead, they repay our generosity by demanding WE change to suit their beliefs & do their best to turn the UK into the same kind of third world shit hole they've just escaped from.

No doubt I'm some kinda Neanderthal racist for daring to think that.

2,000 years go there was a saying, intended to advise those arriving in a foreign land: "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" & those who wrote it knew what they were on about.

Well the Romans had a way of making annoyances disappear, so that was very good advice.
