Name the type of ships Bushy....all I know is the aircraft carriers and have never seen so many at once. What are the boats at the bottom of the picture? I'm guessing destroyers and mine sweepers?

The carriers are called Jeep Carriers or Escort Carriers. I see a bunch of Destroyers and Auxiliary (support) ships.

Great picture, Vince, a lot of scrap metal there.

My Uncle was a torpedo bomber pilot on the USS Petrof Bay, part of "Taffy 1" at Leyte Gulf.

Outgunned and out manned, the Jeeps and their accompanying destroyers and destroyer escorts did the only thing they could in the face of such overwhelming odds and firepower -- they attacked.
That one line sums it up really, not that they had a great deal of choice, run away and die and the troops landing die, or attack and probably die but defend the landing troops.
That's courage.

Back in the days when we were equipped for a fight! OOooohhh Pumpkin another great battle, just read about it on Wikipedia HERE
Called the largest Naval battle of WWII. By the time of the battle, Japan had fewer aircraft than the Allied forces had sea vessels, demonstrating the difference in power of the two sides at this point of the war.
