Never seen a bear in my state... kindof odd now that I think about it and the amount of time I spend in the mts. Cougars are about the same way, rare to ever see one... in fact I saw my first one ever last winter.

I guess I am lucky. I have seen both bears and cougars (the two and four legged variety of each). I have raised black widow spiders and hunted rattle snakes for food. I don't think they would like me much down under... I won't give up my right to defend myself and those I care about.

that sign is a classic..... just remember when running you dont have to outrun the lion/bear etc you just have to out run your companion.

SInce the californicator anti hunting lobby influenced my states commie legislature to not allow any more pursuit with dogs when hunting bears,and "cats"-I generally see one cat every year if not more-even driving on paved roads near where I live!It has gotten so bad that I now go armed anytime I go to the forested areas with my blue healer-because now the cats have very little fear of dogs and regard them as a snack when the dog is coyote sized!The bear population has also increased but they seem to be more reclusive than the cats,and stick mainly to livestock and old farm and ranch dumps!We've had a couple of record class black bears taken from this area-but i have never heard of a blackie attacking anyone here-ever. Surprised
