In the thread I started about my 6.5 Grendel load development we go on the subject of Chronographs. I thought I knew what I was going to buy, either the Shooting Chrony F1 Master of the Alpha Master. I was headed buy one Friday, but Thursday night turned out to be...... well fun I guess so we didn't get moving very early Friday. I had to get my sons Harley to the shop which happened to be about 90 miles on the wrong direction. the weekend did give me extra time to do some research so now I have added the Pro Chrono Digital to my list of possibilities. (Thanks Slim). Can anyone give me give me the pro's and con's?
I like the Shooting Chrony Master because of the remote screen and being nice and small when folded.
But hooking the Pro Chrono directly to my laptop is a plus, but is that worth an extra fifty bucks?

I have 3 chronographs - 2 shooting chrony masters (alpha and beta) and a PACT Professional.
The PACT was the first and really like it. Data prints to an Excel spreadsheet.
The Shooting Chrony's are used to chrono matches. The data can be downloaded to a PC via optional IBM interface. I haven't tried it.

Keeping up on this topic. I have a Pro Chrony Pal but I find it hard to read at times. Keeping a notepad or book open on the table is also a pain. Not interested in something that has accessories that take up table space. Really want one that records both shots and strings so I can download and review later.

Anything but the cheap plastic POS that molded to look as a cartridge, the one made by R * * S.
I suggest a Chrony Beta

I have the chrony F1 master and have never had a problem with it even shooting indoors using home made lighting. The F1 does have a remote in which you can add accessories to but why pay the piper.
You can your own "switch" to the chrony which enhances it even more and other accessories. I made my own usb to rs232 cable stereo and will test it this summer. Here is a link for making your own remote for the chrony.

More will be coming this summer.

Don't worry Gelan I think I can guess my velocities bett then the ammo master.
Pretty cool idea Omni but I am not sure I can create that. But I bet the tech's at work can.
I am still leaning toward a Chrony Alpha Master or Beta Master, but the Pro Chrono Digital still has features I like.
If the Pro Chrono had a remote face plate I would probably lean toward that one.
Are either brand able to feed data directly into Point Blank?

I like my Chrony. It has a serial output for the printer so there should be some way to send info directly to a PC. If I ever get time I'll look into that. Meanwhile I'd suggest contacting Chrony and ask them about it.

By what I have read Chrony's can be hooked to a pc and download the information. What happens when it is downloaded I'm not sure but I guess that is going to require extensive research. I have seen reference to being able to download directly to Excel.
Twenty years ago if you would have told me I would be investing in all these gadgets I would have said your crazy.

Tikka where is Ripley? Just curious as I work on Camp Ripley in Minnesota, a military base.

I assume those that output thru USB send a comma deliniated file in stardard ASCII. Any spreadsheet program will import this format once you have set up column headers that match the sequence of data breaks in the file. Since I don't have access to one of these chronographs someone who does can check by looking at the file in a text editor. Writing a app that imports the data into Point Bank is more technical than my limited knowledge encompasses. Dallan may have some ideas in this regard.
