|
About a month ago I went to a local gun show. One of the local high schools had a booth selling raffle tickets to support the Jr. ROTC. I bought one for thirty dollars and got a pair of small Browning folding knives. OK, I figured I got my $30 dollars worth. Monday I got a call - it was one of the local pheasant international chapters so I figured they wanted a donation. Nope I won the raffle drawing the night before and I am now the proud owner of a set of two Browning A-bolts in 257 Roberts. A youth model and a standard length model. The youth model fits my wife to a tee and I like the other one well enough that I think I will keep it too. I spent the next day picking up scopes, rings and bases, hard cases and the next day trying to find ammo. I have had these guns for two days and can't even find ammunition or brass. I did pick up the dies at the gun show - because I knew I was going to buy a 257 Roberts eventually. I have bullets, powder, primers but not a single case.
I looked on line and Cabela listed some in stock, so I ordered just two boxes to get started. The confirmation email said it was back-ordered to 3/30/2014. It is driving me crazy having these guns with no ammo. I am going to give my brother-in-law a call to see if he can find any in his area. I have been to all the local gun stores and the places that sell ammo with no luck at all. I may have to find some 7x57 brass and neck it down.
well that is the great news and the not-so-great news from me. I hope you have all been well.

Great news and have a ball trying them out. I always liked the ballistics on the 257.

If I had back all the money I've spent on raffles, etc. over the years I could buy a couple of nice guns...

Yep, tried all the sites I have bookmarked. Midway is out of stock and no back orders on both ammo and brass.
I may try to find some 7x57 and neck them down. That is the only thing I haven't tried.
Keep the image of me with loads in my hand in your mind. I am determined to find a way.

Congratulations on a great set of prizes! It is refreshing to know that real, ordinary people actually win such things. In my only two banquets that I attended offering raffles (a "Friends of ......" and a "........Unlimited"), it was obvious from listening to surrounding conversations that the coveted prizes were to go to selected persons. Wonder of wonders, in both cases that is exactly what happened. Glad to see there are still a few honest ones out there. Enjoy!

I guess that is one of the benefits of living in a small community - they haven't learned to cheat yet.
An important after thought: I have two boxes of ammo coming from Selway Armory for a measley $2 per round.... I don't think that's a bargain price but it was available. They should be here the first half of next week.
That means I may be able to shoot the guns before the rust!
