wtf wtf wtf
Royal Canadian Mounted Police broken into lawful firearms owners homes to seize firearms for "Safe Keeping"during flood. New article says it all.
Absolutely incredible! Mad The Muther who ordered that action to take place should be charged. I feel REALY bad that my brother officers were put into this position by the government or the powers that be. A very sad day in Canada for all Canadians. Thus endth my rant Sad

Sad About the same tactics that our gubmint used for the katrina episode in Nola! It's probably going to become more common place till somebody uses some contrary methods to"detour" the gubmint's quest for control!

as long as repaired any damage and gave them back again...
if the crims over there have the resources they have over here they know who has what guns where and can go shop at will so to speak. moral of story when you evacuate take your guns with you..well all you can anyway and lock the rest up really really well.

Unfortunately Elvis is right...criminals (read LOOTERS) would have open slather. Take your firearms with you when you evacuate is the best idea.

As ITD said...it's a shame that the Police were put into that position by someone higher up who is most likely an ANTI firearms advocator. I hope that the people whose firearms were removed get them all back and in good condition.

What I find interesting is that Canada scrapped it's long arm registry not so long ago, yet the Police knew exactly where to go to get the firearms....very interesting. Obviously they still maintain records of firearms owners.

STORAGE OF NON-RESTRICTED FIREARMS

5. (1) An individual may store a non-restricted firearm only if
(a) it is unloaded;

(b) it is
(i) rendered inoperable by means of a secure locking device,

(iii) stored in a container, receptacle or room that is kept securely locked and that is constructed so that it cannot readily be broken open or into; and

(c) it is not readily accessible to ammunition, unless the ammunition is stored, together with or separately from the firearm, in a container or receptacle that is kept securely locked and that is constructed so that it cannot readily be broken open or into.

(2) Paragraph (1)(b) does not apply to any individual who stores a non-restricted firearm temporarily if the individual reasonably requires it for the control of predators or other animals in a place where it may be discharged in accordance with all applicable Acts of Parliament and of the legislature of a province, regulations made under such Acts, and municipal by-laws.

(3) Paragraphs (1)(b) and (c) do not apply to an individual who stores a non-restricted firearm in a location that is in a remote wilderness area that is not subject to any visible or otherwise reasonably ascertainable use incompatible with hunting.

o (ii) stored in a vault, safe or room that has been specifically constructed or modified for the secure storage of prohibited firearms and that is kept securely locked; and

As here in the states ,, the Canadians have uniformed looters. In New Orleans after Katrina ,the mayor had the police confiscate firearms, it took a court order for them to get returned ,yet most weren't ,they probably went to private collections /s

All firearms in Canada fall into one of three classes - non-restricted, restricted or prohibited.
Non-restricted firearm: any rifle or shotgun that is neither restricted nor prohibited. Most common long guns are non-restricted, but there are exceptions.

Restricted firearm* means:
(a) a handgun that is not a prohibited firearm,
(b) a firearm that
(i) is not a prohibited firearm,
(ii) has a barrel less than 470 mm in length, and
(iii) is capable of discharging centre-fire ammunition in a semi-automatic manner,
(c) a firearm that is designed or adapted to be fired when reduced to a length of less than 660 mm by folding, telescoping or otherwise, or
(d) a firearm of any other kind that is prescribed to be a restricted firearm in the Regulations Prescribing Certain Firearms and other Weapons, Components and Parts of Weapons, Accessories, Cartridge Magazines, Ammunition and Projectiles as Prohibited or Restricted.

Prohibited firearm* means:
(a) a handgun that
(i) has a barrel equal to or less than 105 mm in length, or
(ii) is designed or adapted to discharge a 25 or 32 calibre cartridge, but does not include any such handgun that is prescribed, where the handgun is for use in international sporting competitions governed by the rules of the International Shooting Union,
(b) a firearm that is adapted from a rifle or shotgun, whether by sawing, cutting or any other alteration, and that, as so adapted,
(i) is less than 660 mm in length, or
(ii) is 660 mm or greater in length and has a barrel less than 457 mm in length,
(c) an automatic firearm, whether or not it has been altered to discharge only one projectile with one pressure of the trigger, or
(d) any firearm that is prescribed to be a prohibited firearm in the Regulations Prescribing Certain Firearms and other Weapons, Components and Parts of Weapons, Accessories, Cartridge Magazines, Ammunition and Projectiles as Prohibited or Restricted.

"The guns will be returned to owners after residents are allowed back in town and they provide proof of ownership"

What a crock!! I wonder how many have proof of ownership papers for their guns? I have papers for the new guns I bought but what about the ones that were handed down thru generations?

The RCMP ought to take them back to the rightful owners from whom they stole the guns from. Let's see their paper work and the addresses from where they were taken!!

This isn't right no matter what the circumstances. Police time would be better spent patrolling the streets to stop looting insteat of breaking into homes themselves.

I wonder if that is one of the reasons people refuse to leave when an evacuation notice is given?
How are they supposed to prove ownership - all their important papers were destroyed in the flood. What kind of game is the RCMP playing?
