That's why I moved from Arizona. There you can expect months on end of 100 degree days. That snow does look pretty good. Imagine being able to have snow and 100 degree weather at the same time...MMMmmmm wouldn't that be nice. Have to beer coolin off....go out there in your shorts and sunburn and plant your legs in the fluffy cold stuff HHHhhhmmmmmnnnn I think I would drown in it.

The last four weeks of "summer" here has consisted of rain, drizzle, clouds, more rain, some more rain & temperatures struggling to reach 60°F
Roll on Albuquerque in November, where it'll be sunnier & warmer.

Been there, done that!
Suz, when I took the family to Glacier National Park in Montana in June 2002, they had had a freak snow storm the week before that dumped 8' of snow on them. The next week when we were there, they had a 100-deg+ heat wave. We hiked in our shorts on snow pack. On the sides of slopes, the snow cooled the air and formed refreshing downdrafts which were very nice. However, on the tops of ridges, you only got a verticle colunn of hot air coming down on you and you would be sweating bullets. This is a family picture with Iceberg Lake in the background. It was so hot, I decided to jump into a section of the lake where the ice had melted, leaving about a 10-foot strip of water. BAD idea!!! I almost didn't get back out of the 32-deg freezing water before my body turned numb. It took me sitting in the sun for 20 minutes before I had my extremities back to normal.

Lovely family SlimJ...yeah that's the way to cool off! There's a few volcanoes around here and in Wash. with snow year round on them but the hike up there is prob. not for me, would love to go though.

We were in Seattle last weekend during their heat wave in the 90s. We went and hiked Mt Rainer but they still had 5 feet of snow at the Paradise lodge. At those temperatures, the snow melt rate was 7" a day. The air currents off the snow and glacier fed streams also helped us cool down.

another interesting factoid about snow packs in warm weather - our hoofed friends like to lay on the snow patches because the down draft caused by the cooling of the air is strong enough that the flies can't fly through it and bother them.

man that surely is a neat picture. bet your legs got sunburnt to heck???
the sun off the snow manages to get into places that dont normally see sunlight. sunglasses and a good hat are a must but the glare off the snow comes up at you and is hard to defeat.
