Party

It is official today. The long gun registry in Canada is over. All records will be destroyed except in Quebec where the provincial government has an injunction against disposal of Quebec resident records. It is now possible to buy/sell non-restricted rifles and shotguns without the PITA of registration. An acquisition license is still required and the rules for storage still apply.

Good luck and best wishes on dumping the rest of your anti- gun laws.

Great stuff Mac. With some luck, that will set some sort of a precedence for the same to happen in Australia.

What a lot of legal firearms owners in Australia don't realise is that when the COAG (Council of Australian Goverments) got together and discussed gun laws, the registration of ALL firearms was not part of the final decision...it is something that the State Police Commissioners (or their cronies) decided to include, apparently after the event. There are some people looking at this very thing now because in Queensland alone, the cost of maintaining the Weapons Licensing Branch is astronomical and the newly elected Government is looking at ways of trying to save money. This might just be the thing to get them to do...especially now that Canada has scrapped theirs.

EDIT: 9 Apr 2012 The only long arms made illegal were semi automatics and pump action shotguns. Apparently the registration of long arms was on the agenda...BUGGER> Apologies for the wrong info.

Cheers, Vince

Mine are still registered, but I have had some offers to sell my long guns to out of province Canadians, who are willing to lend them to me for a long term, a very long term.

I'll buy all of your guns for a dollar, and you can borrow them for the next 100 years some odd years. Razz

Thanks for the offer Dimitri, it is really appreciated, but I have two sons in Calgary, two other in Vancouver and a daughter in Brockville. They are all willing to inherit my guns now but will take possession only in a few years after I am gone to the happy hunting ground. As you can see my children were the wise ones in this family, and moved out of Québec.
