Thanks for the good advice. I don't have a torque screwdriver. I may invest in one if I keep buying rifles :-)
Some more information:
- the rings that loosened and the Weaver bases are both aluminum.
- while marked and marketed as fitting both weaver and picatinny bases they are slightly too narrow for the weaver bases which causes the clamp to tilt vertically when they are tighted. This is exacerbated by the incorrect distance from the base of the ring and the apex of the notch in the clamp. This also causes the nut to not be in equal contact with the clamp all around the nut's face.
- the Weaver rings are steel and fit perfectly. They have a Torks cap screw for tightening the clamp.
Now I think it is time for a wee rant.
My remark about "China" is based upon my and others experience with too many "Chinese"products that have poor quality and some that have proved downright unsafe. I am talking everything from tires to anchor chain. Many "North American" manufacturers' products that are now sourced completely or partially from there and in India have also declined in quality. The current philosophy appears to be one of substituting replacing defective consumer returns for proper factory QA. The problem is finding anything that isn't made in India or China.
Taking profits made in our countries and then investing them in Chinese factories while gutting jobs jobs at home is what our business leaders have been doing for 20 years now. I guess "Freedom" does not pay well enough for the wealthy. Must be all those pesky worker safety rules, labor laws, workers who want a living wage, environmentalists, honest politicians, consumer protection laws and access to courts that make moving to "China" so profitable.
Rant ended. Not meant to give offense to anyone. |
Is it a rant if its true?
Elvis also has a point.
The other thing is china will and can produce very good quality items, its just that your/our companies dont want to pay for it, so we wear the crap at still high prices.
What gets me is who do these dicks think is going to be able to afford this stuff if everyone is out of a job?
