Here's hoping that all our Kiwi friends are OK! We'll be waiting to hear from you.

You are right Gelan...one helluva shake-up for them buggers down Christchurch way.

Its funny...Radar has been saying that he has been feeling "shivers and shakes" for a while now...must have been the Pacific Plate"easing" towards a move.

Lets hear from all our KIWI mates to be sure that you are all OK...although I heard on the news this morning that even cell phone comms are out, so it might be a little while before we hear from anybody in the region of the quake.

Cheers, Vince

I live 2 hours drive down the road in Timaru and we are fine down hear. the odd brick chimney has toppled and lots of shattered nerves.I have mates not far from the centre of the shock this morning and they had a mess to clean up but nothing major. A wake up call for us all.

Yeap I'm about 700km north and our siesmigraph showed a large quake recording, Didn't feel it though. I got family and freinds in the main impact zones of Christchurch and Kaiapoi who say it was bloody frighteneing but as Elvis said No-ones dead, and if its busted - mend it.

Good to hear Elvis and Radar.

Its a God send that nobody was seriously injured or killed. From what I have read, it was a doozy of a shake. I wonder if there will be any big follow up quakes or if that was the major shift and things will settle down now.

Cheers, Vince

Just turned on the tube yesterday and wow....glad you's is all ok for the most part.

Elvis makes a good point, too. Keep supplies handy. We do out here as we get them often. Beans, bullets, beers, first aid and water is a good start.

Take care guys!

Typical Kiwis always trying to out do other countries,
worst earthquakes, worst floods, best country, best scenary, best hunting, best beer, best footy team, blah, blah blah, will it ever stop.

good to hear most people are OK.
Just a bummer of a plane crash.
That was sad with to many people.

On the same day as the quake 9 people were killed when a skydiving plane crashed shortly after takeoff near Fox Glacier in the South Island, maybe about 100 - 200 km from the Equake area. Ive seen a few in my time in the police but there was F.all left of the plane and no one would have survived anyway. Real shame 5 kiwis and 4 Tourists
