A guy I used to hunt a lot with called me up yesterday and asked me to apply for a 'gator tag for 2008. I told him I would. My state has a lottery for alligators and he got chosen in 2006. Once you get chosen, you have to skip a year before you can re apply.

The first time he went, he used a harpoon/spear. He says the next time he will use a crossbow. You must hunt them at night.

Application time is January. The season is in October, I think.

I believe there is an article about gator hunting in the last "Outdoor Life".

I do not hunt anything at night that eats back...And if I was to do something like that I'd pick a larger weapon then a bow, spear or a cross bow...I would want something that goes "BOOM!!".......

Well guys, I don't really have a choice. Because alligators are hunted while they are in the water, the danger of ricochet is serious enough that firearms are not allowed.

If I was you I'd be baiting them, wait till they are OUT of the water, then shoot with one of your FAL's. Shocked

Perhaps, it might be fun Tracker, especially if I can get on a range with Class 3 firearms to try out after the hunt. Laughing

LOL Tracker, well I think if a Alligator was comming towards me 1 I'd have a rifle in my hands, and 2 the magazine is going to be emptied onto it and I'm going to hear a single "click" before I stop pushing the trigger on it (works best with semi-automatics, which just so happens thats the only type of firearm I own, semi-automatic rifles Cool

). Then a magazine change maybe required. Laughing

I'm assuming you'll be useing a bright light of some kind????

It's suggested that you bait em in?????

Bows knives and spears are used????

And there is alcohol involved????

Are you guys sure your not talking about a W.V. bow hunt??????????????????
