I've used both products in the past to clean clean rifles, but never in conjunction with each other. I've read where some folks are using a cleaning patch soaked with Kroil and embedding JB's in the same patch with great results. Brownells even sells a kit with both components in it.

I was under the impression that JBs was an abrasive, so was hesitant to use it unless deemed as absolutely necessary.
Anyone here have thoughts?

I have used Kroil to clean all but severe leading from .22 bores as well as handguns using cast bullets. It seems to creep under the lead to lift it from the surface and helps condition the bore. JB's is usually reserved for mild lapping of less than smooth bores, but the combination should be an excellent cleaner.

It's abrasive to carbon, copper and lead..... not a barrel !!!
I've used the combination on stubborn barrels that wouldn't clean up and heavily leaded barrels. Wouldn't hesitate to use it again.

Lapping is awesome. Had Dave (Deer Sniper) do the tube on Boomer- it's like a mirror and cleans up faster than any gun I have and it's very consistent on paper. Kroil is pretty cool stuff. Like tranny fluid with some magic ingredient.

It is a mild abrasive that is more aggressive to carbon, copper and lead than to steel, but can also be used to lap out imperfections in bores. I have used it to give a near-mirror finish to bores. To do so requires a lot of elbow grease and constant replenishing of paste as well as plenty of time. The normal amount used to clean fouling is no where near enough to damage a barrel.

Another vote for JB Bore Cleaner. I have used it for years on very dirty bores with complete satisfaction and had no issues. It also works well to remove carbon from stainless steel revolvers. All the best...

I'm gonna try the combination on my 308 this weekend, just to see if I force any more stuff out of it. It's "clean" now, but I'm kinda curious.

I use Kroil and Butches Bore shine 50/50 for routine cleaning and about every 500 rounds I JB the bore focusing on the throat. I do run a patch of Kroil prior to JB to wet the bore and soften it up a bit. never though about using it together.
I also JB every new barrel before I fire a shot. May be hocus pocus and the fact I buy good barrels but they seem to clean up faster than barrels I do not polish first.

I used JB on the 300 Win Mag before I ever fired it. I had heard of several better shooter than I am doing it, so what the hell. No idea if it will make a difference in performance, but I figured it couldn't hurt anything as long as I didn't get carried away.
I ran the JB and Kroil combo through the .308 this afternoon. It's difficult to tell if it's any "cleaner" since I don't have a borescope. It's been my(limited) experience that JB's always leads to patches looking like mud after using it, but I did notice that after flushing the Bore with Aero Kroil and running a few patches through with Hoppes Elite it sure looks better. Guess I'll know once I get it back to the range

Many years ago somebody adviced me: "when you think your barrel is clean, run a patch of WIPE AWAY trough it and watch". Don't know if they still sell these yellow stuff nor that it harms the barrel, but every so many years, when nothing seems to help, I use a small piece still of the same package.
