I've been scared, once or twice.

Once, as a kid, I was scared my Ma was gonna catch me after she seen me out the kitchen window plug her favorite Banty Rooster with a pellet gun. Wouldn't have been so bad but I knocked feathers loose. She can run purty quick for a big woman....I stayed in the woods half the night 'till long after she went to bed.

Another time, I was a little worried my wife was gonna catch me when I.........well, never mind.

hmmmmm , never have set any off depriming live ones yet , but i seem to remember something about the Lee hand primer instructions saying something about federal primers tend to go off rather easily and that is why they don't recommend them for the lee hand primer, feel free to correct me if i'm wrong Smile

Various primers have thicker or thinner cups and vary in sensitivity when struck. Having said that...I load federal, Winchester, CCI and Remington primers in my Lee Auto prime II and haven't set one off yet (the opertive word here is "YET")...I will assume that you wear at least safety glasses when you prime your cases...Right?

I don't know anything about the Lee hand primer though. Never had one.

Always wear safety glasses , I never assume it won't happen , with my luck , the one and only time i wouldn't wear them , id get hurt, so i don't take chances period , Reading , i found that the fed primer issue is only with the hand primer , not the autoload at all , i have some fed primers , but mostly winchester atm, because i got a great deal on them so i couldn't resist , never had a prob with the winchesters yet either. Only thing i can remember bad about those was a few years ago they had a bad batch that wouldn't fire when you pulled the trigger and they were recalled. but haven't seen that prob myself

Shoot them, or use them in your reloads. And yes make sure the area in front of the muzzle is clear if you do shoot them.

As for the oil, WD-40 or the like on the open end (inside the case) will work as well. Spraying the oil on the back side (where the firing pin hits) wont do much to the ammunition.

Dimitri

Recent tests on primers have shown that they do not become inert nearly as easy as they once did. Even primers soaked in Kroil for four days still had a fire rate of over 90%. Even over a week under water and they had a higher successful fire rate.

Nothing wrong with just using them. Or as others have said push them out with a size die and decapping pin.

skb,

Neat to know that, I'll keep that in mind in the future. Smile

Why not just disharge them in a gun?
bang and you run a swab through the barrel and it is done.

Bushmaster,
I am OK. Tired but finished with remodeling for a while. The next one will be the kitchen and I am not looking forward to that.
Going to be doing a little reloading and shooting to see if I can still do it with my back in the condition it is. My wife says she wants to learn how to reload. I told her that I would teach her if she would teach me to shoot. She looked, then laughed and said I would have to teach her that too. Somehow I think she will do fine. She has been shooting before and seems to be a natural at it. I have to work to do it well.
Has life been treating you well?

Women, for some reason (rape me my a** Bang!!), seem to be better shots then men or don't have to work at it as hard...

Back still bothering you? Seems we all have our problems. I just got out of the hospital. Four days with an IV stuck in my arm. Seems I screwed up my colon (diverticulitus). But I'm fine now or so it seems. Been a life changing thing though. Can't have a lot of things to eat anymore. And wouldn't you know it. Most of what I really like to eat I can't have anymore. Like peanuts.

Take it easy and get your back back in good fiddle.

Thanks Big D. First time Ive had to go to a hospital. Can't say I really liked it. No food for three days. Just that damned IV. A whole bunch of pokin' and prodin' and a few real pretty young nurses and nurse's aids...
