Single Shot Handgun Follow Up

Now that I have a Marlin in 35 Rem, I was thinking about a single shot pistol, like the Contender in the same caliber. I was wondering how hunters with SS handguns carry ammo for a follow-up shot. It seems to me that a wrist band with two or three rounds in elastic loops, worn on the shooting hand could provide a very good follow-up shot should one be necessary.

What do you guys with SS handguns do (besides make one shot kills every time)?

I have the wrist loops for mine. And I have an MTM ammo wallet.

I have hunted with single shot handguns and rifles for about 25 years. I keep my extra ammo in the front left brest pocket, I am right handed. Years ago I found that the only reason for a second shot and the only time you will get one is as a finishing shot. In such a case you have plenty of time to reload.

Depending on how thick it is where you hunt, a Contender may not be the best choice for a hunting handgun. The internal safety drops when the hammer is drawn back. In the woods the internal safety falling makes a verl loud CLACK. The Encore is a better choice as the trigger can be pulled as the hammer is drawn back, then the trigger is released before the hammer is released, for a silent preperation on a close critter. I lost a very good buck to the TC "clack" and switched guns to the XL or Merrill by RPM, which is silent.

SF- the G2 eliminates the problem your reference in a Contender based gun. The working parts are identical to the Encore at 2/3 scale.

Yep, you are correct. I was refering to the real Contender which I also have a bad habit of refering to as a TC, just an old rut in my road. I consider the Encore and C-2 as another beast entirely.... Very Happy

But, then again, in truth, I never consider the C-2 at all, as I have never owned one nor have I ever had the desire to do so. Perhaps I need to look at one in a different light. I am sure they are a good gun, as most things by Thompson Center are outstanding for the money.

Actually, an Encore would give me a whole lot more flexibility than a Contender would.
