Underground range? In the basement? That could be a challenge (ventilation) and a bit loud...I have a 25 yard range a bit up the hill out my back door in the oak trees which baffles the sound to some degree...

vint2...I have access to a 200 yard range on my neighbor's property across the road insight of my house. Can't put a rifle range on my place as I own the top of the ridge and have no adiquate backstop for long ranges out to 100 or longer yards.

I am fortunate in that I am out in the boonies and have 160 acres to work with, but I still put safety as top priority and it can be a pain to find the requisit backstops and distance! Now all I have to do is build it!! Will likely tire my poor old tractor to the bones by the time I get done cutting, digging, scraping, and hauling! Oh well, I hired John to work!!!!! Very Happy

A contractor that has bid on building my house has offered to help me build the underground range because he wants to use the range when it is built. He has the equipment and the know how. So I thought why not?? It will make a great storm shelter for these parts anyway!!

Some updates concerning the Supreme Court decision:

D.C. Refining of Gun Laws--Offensively Stupid: Only a few weeks after the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in the Heller case, which struck down D.C.'s ban on handguns and allowed having a firearm in operable condition at home, D.C. has passed "emergency" law and new police regulations intended to retain as much of the ban and storage requirement as possible. The law was crafted in consultation with the Brady Campaign, according to the Washington Post.
There are many objectionable features to the new D.C. law and regulations, but two stand out as particularly egregious. Though the Supreme Court ruled that D.C. could not ban handguns, the new rules would still ban all or most semi-automatic pistols. And in spite of the fact that the court ruled that D.C. cannot ban the use of guns for protection in the home, the District still prohibits having a gun loaded and ready unless an attack within your home is imminent or underway.
Without Congress' intervention, D.C. can violate the intent of the Heller decision indefinitely. That is because under "Home Rule," D.C.'s emergency bills are not subject to review by Congress, and D.C. can reinstitute "emergency" laws every 90 days. The city's officials are already thumbing their noses at the Supreme Court.

ACLU Of Nevada Declares Support For Individual's Right To Keep And Bear Arms: In a surprising break from the national office of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the Nevada state office recently declared its support for an individual's Right to Keep and Bear Arms, apparently making it the first state affiliate to break with the national ACLU's position on the Second Amendment.

United Nations Threat Continues: Over the past 7 years, the United Nations (UN) has been working to reach agreement on an international treaty on the trade in small arms. A "Meeting of States" has occurred every two years on the topic, and is going on once again in New York City. The threat this poses to our Second Amendment rights is real. Thanks to the efforts of U.S. officials, its progress has been delayed, but, unfortunately, not stopped.

Evanston Votes To Amend Gun Ban-Tries To Avoid NRA Lawsuit: Unlike the debacle in Washington, D.C., in the wake of the Supreme Court's Heller decision and in an effort to avoid NRA's lawsuit against their city aldermen in the Chicago suburb of Evanston unanimously voted to amend the city's 27-year-old handgun ban at a recent closed-door meeting.

Village Of Morton Grove To Repeal Gun Ban: Today the Village of Morton Grove also moved to avoid protracted legal action by amending its Village Code to remove the current handgun ban and incorporate sections of the Illinois Criminal Code, following the filing of NRA's lawsuit against the city.

Obviously we've made a large step in the right direction but the fight to protect our rights will NEVER end. There will always be those who seek to control others and there will always be sheep willing to follow the controllers. Our real jobs in this contest are to resist the control and educate the sheep.

For those of you who haven't already read it I recommend a copy of "The Second Amendment Primer" by Les Adams. Although its a little dated regarding these recent events, it was copyrighted in 1996, it contains a history of the right to arms from ancient time throught the writing of the Second Amendment, including the thoughts of the Founding Fathers. Its hard for an "anti" to argue what the Founding Fathers "meant" when you can show him exactly what they said.

Over the years I've noticed that the people who want to protect the right to defend themselves are generally interested in the common good. Those who want to disarm the people tend to be interested in "what's good for ME!" Guess that's why I like hanging out around here, because we have good hearted folks passing through this portal.

wtf Washington DC-from the city that brought us a coke snorting mayor/criminal.
As for the U.N.-it should be shipped out of the U.S. mainland to some choice vacation spot like Diego Garcia,or the antarctic!Maybe they can influence coconut crabs or penguins to their point of view!

I always thought that the tropical Johnston Island where they burn all the chemical and biological agents would be a good place to put the UN...

Missouri does not require you to register your gun...Infact it is next to impossible to do so. They don't have the time... Very Happy

If you purchase a gun in Texas, it is registered at that time, unless you buy from an individual. Those are never registered. I have very few guns that are registered. Maybe one or two. You are not required to actively seek registration.
