did you ever get your ass blasted buy a wooden paddle in school

Nope, can't say I did. When I went to school they used a cane.....about a half inch in diameter and about 4 foot long. Used to get it across the hand......not at all nice, would sting like buggery.

I remember smarting off and the teacher called me up front, smacked me with her paddle and it broke in half. I believe I had a pretty big smile until she opened her desk drawer where there were at least 4 more paddles - ahhh, the good ol' days.......I am guessing a few teachers wished that the old wood shed still existed!

My mother would send a note to school with me to give to the teacher. The teacher would send a note back to my mother saying that she had recieved the "permission to paddle" note... My mother was into psychology. She would also give us boys a paring knife and we would have to go into the forest and cut our own punishment switch and it had better be stout...

yep was blasted for dotting some kids eye after he stole my pencil. the teacher lit him up for taking it, then my turn he said "its not your fault" and hit me, i whipped around and say then why the F did you hit me ya D..K to the teacher.. whoops 3 days out heheh

saw a few get blasted with it.
l was taller than my teachers so they didnt bother with me.
A few knew my parents from their school days and they really didnt bother.
But l was pretty much a good student, didnt get into trouble and if l got into a tangle it was because I was usually protecting a weaker kid from a bully.
Or protecting my sister from other's taunting, I was really short tempered as a child.
didnt want to face dad at the end of it all, so I didnt get into trouble, nope nope.

Did I ever! It was a common punishment in my day and I was a typical boy during the late 40s through the 50s. Meaning I wasn't "bad" but a bit adventurous and reasoned. Meaning I would want to do something out of bounds and evaluated the cost if caught vs. the fun if not and made a choice. Usually, I got away with it, but not always by any means.

Paddles in my high school were made by other boys in the wood shop classes. Most were cut from a maple 1x4 board about 2 feet long, with a good handle and the board tapered from full size down to about half size at the flying end. It had a good heft and swung fast, stung like hell when the board of education was applied to the seat of learning while we grabbed our knees. Typical punishment was a formula of one, two or three swats according to the crime - we knew the penalty too! But, NO ONE complained to momma at the end of the day, that was for wimps and sissies. The rest of us also knew if we said we were paddled at school we would get it agin at home too!

Paddling did not teach us to solve problems with violence as liberals profess, it taught us there were some painful penalties for straying from the paths of righteousness set by the larger authorities in our lives. It worked too.

My generation has a record of much less violence than todays youth who know there is not much, if any, REAL penalty for really bad behaviour. That's probably why Paris H. whinned, "It's not fair!" when she actually had to pay an unacustomed penalty for her misdeeds!

Wcchester has it nailed...I made many a trip to the wood shed in my youth. And he's right. If I got paddled at school and my parents found out I got it again at home, or in the wood shed I should say. It did me no harm because as wcchester said. I evaluated or weighed the punishment to the crime and decided whether it would be worth it...Most of the time I would pass on the fun because it hurt...As it should.

Nope ...... I never got paddled at school cause it would have been 10 times worse when I got home and I knew that.

Howdy guys - cant say I ever got the paddle in school. I guess times have changed some since I'm probly more of a youngin compared to yall (hahaha). But what I didn't get in school daddy made up for at home with the wide leather saddle strap -OWW! Kinda old fashioned but it worked and I believe in it as a dad now myself.

No paddle at school for me, by the time I got into school a teacher physically disciplining a kid in any way was a offense they can be fired with. Laughing

As for corporal punishment I'm all for it I know it works. Very Happy

granddad had one of those shaving straps for the straight blades. got that only once cause dad couldnt get his belt off fast enough.
shivers just remembering it.
