Ok so I rented and watched "Underworld" this weekend and while I think its a movie 99.9999% of the people here would not like (gothic, vampires vs werewolves... heroine in tight black leather) there was 2 things I really liked, #1 the Heroine (Kate Beckinsale) uses 2 pistols as her weapons of choice. Whats cool is they are fully auto selectable. Its really cool to watch her pull the trigger and a BZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzppptttt is heard while you see 10ish casings eject out the side.

EDIT: Just as a curiosity I googled "underworld" + "pistols" and found info on what was used in the movie. They were Walther P99 Stainless's converted to full auto.

The 2nd thing I liked about this movie is typically it seems actors are crappy shooters of firearms, They flinch, close their eyes etc etc, pistols flopping around under recoil. None of that in this movie. I think they worked long and hard with Kate to establish a shooting style. She is dead rock steady shooting under even full auto mode and I never saw a flinch or even bat an eyelash when she was firing. Pretty cool.

The rest of the movie was fairly lame however.

I also liked the weapons in the movie "starship troopers" (again another one I think most people here would hate), they had some custom assault rifles made in a bullpup style that were pretty neat.

And for the western people, Quigely's sharps was pretty neat.

What other movie firearms did people like, think were creative etc etc?

Dallan:
I too, liked the Sharps in Quigley, so much I am saving my money to get one.

Had a fascination with the M29 in Dirty Harry, so I got a 629 with an 8 3/8" bbl, but wished I would have settled for the 6".

Loved the Colts in all of John Wayne's movies, but heard they were not actually true Colts, but Great Western revolvers? If anyone knows for sure, I would like to know!

If you like John Wayne in 'Big Jake', he uses a Greener Coach shotgun. Had the occasion to see an acual Greener like that at the Tulsa gun show on the Champlin Firearms table. Pretty cool!

Starship Troopers movies were nice, The "Bullpup" rifle is just a Mini-14 in a fancy stock. Smile

As we are talking for movies Heat with Robert Deniro, Al Pachino, and Val Kilmer. Now that was a GREAT movie! Cool They hired a former SAS member for training the actors how to use the rifles and all. And Val Kilmers magazine change in the bank shoot out is perfect. Smile

The revolver tha Clint uses in high plains drifter is really cool.

There aere modern cap/ball and cartridge conversions being made now by some italian company I think.

I like COl Mortimers saddle roll in a few dollars more also- nice setup. - don't know waht his pistol is though- anyone with ideas??

The .50 cal used in navy seals was almost accurate in what it could do.

The rifles in "sniper" with berenger were real but the scope reticles were BS and even the armourer on the shoot told them so. The Druganov used by the enemy sniper was real and fully funtional.
The had to redo the concrete mount for the .50 cal in the shoot them as they enter the house scene as it broke the first base with recoil as the blanks were loaded a bit hot. but they made an awsome sound.

My mate (theatical armourer) owns a full functional MG08/15 used in the mini movies Anzacs with paul hogan and from other period movies.

Have you guys not see the Dillon site that lists the Quigly movie as: Staring the Sharps? On my desk I have the 45-110 dummy "signed" by Tom, that the NRA was "giving" away. I must be different, I spent most of my time looking for that ant, ants have all the good parts. Very Happy

There have been several movies where an effort was made to use period pieces, like Enemy at the Gate. Sniper was BS from start to finish and so bad that Hollywood thought it was too wonderful and made a sequal. Now if you want to see shooting, just for shooting's sake, get a copy of Mr & Mrs Smith. Lots of shooting, would make Sam Peckinpaw proud. Party
Unlike Sam though, the main charecters do not die, just get a few scratches and bruises, big lips and all, after shooting up a whole batallion of assasins.

But for real guns and real gun handling see Tommy "the squirrel" Cruise's movie. He may be a nut, but he did about 6 months of training with IPSC shooters. His handling, draws, reloads, etc are pretty good stuff.

My biggest pet peave in movies is anytime they move the gun it makes noise....click.....clack....clack.

Or if they jack a shell???? Nothing comes out or hits the floor. And they do it everytime they point it at someone.

DOOM was a lame movie but the gun action was great. In the extras on the DVD they show them actually training with military.

UNDERWORLD RULED AND SO DID UNDERWORLD 2 Very Happy

John Waynes revolver of choice was a Colt SAA with 4 3/4 inch barrel in 38-40.

A friend of mine was a security guard at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody Wyoming. He got to hand carry Gary Coopers 6 gun from "Shane" from the vault to the display area. I am very envious of him.

"Shane" 1952 production starring, Alan Ladd, Jean Aurther, and Van Heflin.Co-starring: Brandon De Wilde, Jack Palance, Ben Johnson, Edgar Buchanan.
Produced and directed by: George Stevens.
Based on the novel by, Jack Schaefer.
I dont see Gary Cooper's name any were! Confused nor him, and I've watched this movie a hundred times. wtf
Alan Ladd was Shane.
Unless your talking about an earlier, or later, production.

Ya I did a little more research and yes, the scene where she shoots 360 degrees around her to shoot through the floor she is indeed shooting full auto Beretta MP's... She also had select fire Walther P99's in the opening train tunnel scene, but she mostly shot semi-auto during it.

Seems to be an interesting puesdo cult following for just the weapons she used LOL. Maybe I'll cut out the clip of the Beretta's and post it.

Full auto Beretta's

Select Fire Walther 99's

Interestingly, the full auto berettas were also used in Judge Dredd.

John Travolta also used a full auto Beretta in Broken Arrow.

You can tell if an actor is a gun person or just "acting". John Wayne loved guns and had a large collection, He was also a personal friend to Roy Weatherby, they went on a few hunts together.
I cant remember her name, she plays in the new series "Blade", she is into guns big time and stated on TV at a awards cerimony of some kind that she just got a new Kimber "Rator" 45acp, Kind of blew the guys mind who was interviewing her! I laughed at his reaction.

DallanC- Looks good, the guns are not bad either :).
I am sitting here looking at my 1896 30/40 Kraig bayonet with "RKOP" (RKO Productions) stamped on it, I don't even know if they are still in business. I would rather have one that had not been in the movies, but it is a little hard to find U.S. Kraig bayonets these days.
