Swampie , havent priced the .700 cept for Butch Searcy's and it's less than the W.R. I am sure .. Would be cool , but my only problem with the .700 is the brass is $33 per piece .. But if ya can buy the cabin , and they are pricey in Destin/Santa Rosa Bch/Seagrove Bch , well whats $33 for one piece of brass ..

I like 35 caliber. Its about as big as I want to shoot without having the gun on a mount. The cartridge I use is 358 Winchester. One of the best loved "obsolete" cartridges that should never have been dropped.

Thanks, guys, for revivng this thread. I'm a fan of larger bores, but haven't been able to afford any huge cannons yet.
I picked up a Ruger No 1 in .375 H&H as an investment as it was available for $450. I love shooting it and have decided to sell off my collection of Smith & Wesson top breaks and keep the .375. The offset recoil pad makes it seem like it kicks less than the .300 WBY, even with hot dangerous game loads.
I would really like a .50 Barrett but they are way out of my budget, and so is the ammo.
I have posted a photo of the .375 before, but here is another so you don't have to search the never-ending "my new gun" thread.

Hard to beat the .45-70 in my opinion. The Marlins handle so well and can be loaded mild or hot. I've got a .45-70 Pedersoli "Remington" rolling block that I've shot out to 500 yards. Its just a great, versatile cartridge.
I also have a Rem 700 in .35 Whelen and am thinking about a Ruger .375 or .416...

Elvis, don't hesitate. One day I will also buy such a double, but for now, my every-day-carrier is a single shot Baikal in .222 Rem. Bought it second hand for 50 euro, added chinese optics (with the 3 extra mounting rails) for 25 euro and did a little job on the trigger with an Arkansas stone + added some tefflongrease.
This little cheapo can compete with my friends Blazer + expensive optics...
and please don't think these are normal prices for guns. All gunprices dropped here till ridiculous levels since the new (very stupid) gunlaws of 2006 where the government started stealing guns of most citizens who didn't hunt or were member of a shooting club.
But when I remember it correctly, Tika also made doubles and they were easy to adjust yourself, without the help of a gunsmith...

I always wanted to build a rigby style mauser sporter sporter on an Argentine 1909 but couldn't make myself tear apart the ones I kept finding. Finally I came across one the previous owner had cut down the stock and reamed the original 7.65 mauser chamber to 30-06, for $200. I rebarreled it and built a stock for it, put banded front sight and barrel band swivel on. found an old receiver sight took it apart polished all surfaces and now shoot it to my hearts content. it's chamber is an 8-280 ackley that shoots 180 nosler bal tips at 2900+ fps that's cool in a non magnum powder charge. I was going to do a .318 Westley\Richards but couldn't find a barrel with the right groove dia. so instead of going up to the .338-06 I went down to the .323 I don't think I'll ever be sorry. I have picture's of it in my photo album.
