RePete is correct IMHO, once they accepted your money (even at the time you put your deposit!), they cannot refuse anymore or when they do, you're supposed to get compensation.
Only when somebody can prove this are stolen goods and you could have known this because of a too low price...
but then the original owner is complaining, not the shop!

The problem is once a lawyer is consulted any cost saving between the price in error and the actual retail price will quickly become a wash with the legal fees. It sucks, but he's probably better off just walking away from it...

Don't you have somekind of "ombudservice" from the government? I would check the ministery of economics. Normally no costs involved and when you get somebody interested in your case, who knows what could happen...

Offer and acceptance are there so I think you have a binding contract. The problem is that the value doesn't warrant an action for breach. Too bad.

Given their disclaimer allowing them to cancel any order, I can't see that I could win. By placing the order your accepting their terms of sale, including that disclaimer. I'm no lawyer, maybe I'd win and maybe I wouldn't, but in the end I think the lawyer would be the winner.

That disclaimer is the final word. It may not be a proper way to do business but it is the policy you accepted when placing the order.
