Hope you all have a feast and a beer and a football game.
The original Thanksgiving comes from Native annual celebrations of harvest. Thanking Mother Earth for what she has allowed us to take from her and to celebrate our fortune of blessings. The Friday after Thanksgiving is designated as the official day in America to pay homage to the heritage and culture of the American Indian. I bet most of you didn't know that. Instead we shove each other in lines at the mall to buy a big screen TV. Kind of a slap in the face....we mar the harvest fest with greed and want more. Giving thanks should be a daily ritual, not a once a year stuff-yourself.
Yes I'm gonna stuff myself...I love this day, some mourn this day, I don't, I eat like a pig and fatten up for the winter. Just wanted you to know where this annual fest originated and the day after has been ignored, makes me sad.

I will be at my daughter's for Thanksgiving but on Friday I will remember the natives and the bounty that mother has provided.
Thanks Suz, I have another day to be happy!

Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate.
We're frying up yet another bird. It turns out just fantastic, juicy and soo tasty. If you all haven't tried it, its highly recommended.

Oh my, huckelberry cobbler, pumpkin pie, chocolate cream pie, whipped cream, sweet potatoes with brown sugar and pecans, string bean casserole, cranberries, turkey, stuffing, taters and gravy, sourdough bread with walnuts, ambrosia salad with nutmeg, and I'm still burping. Took a horse ride after dinner and watched the sun go down on a beautiful, sunny but cold day. Life is good and a friend came over and gave me some elk meat too.
We return thanks to our mother, the Earth,
which sustains us.
We return thanks to the rivers and streams,
which supply us with water.
We return thanks to all herbs,
which furnish medicines for the cure of our diseases.
We return thanks to the moon and stars,
which have given to us their light when the sun was gone.
We return thanks to the sun,
that has looked upon the earth with a beneficent eye.
Lastly, we return thanks to the Great Spirit,
in Whom is embodied all goodness,
and Who directs all things for the good of Her children.
That's an Iroquois prayer and it seems to cover just about
everything, think I'll use it.
