I might have done the same and massage the deer, but then in the back of my mind would go..

Funny how they settle down without panic. Like they knew that they were better off and it was going to be OK. They even let the guy massage them.
If I was still a Catholic I would say that St. Francis was there to help.

I doubt they had the energy or body heat remaining to do much else. But yes, they came to the boat and looked to the humans for help ... and never showed fear or panic. They knew they were in a desparate situation.
