maybe you should dust off the .12ga and give the shoulder a break till you get back into it.

Slip out to your local Clay Target Club Wiersay and shoot some Ball Trap, Continental and Double Rise mate. Your eye will come back...and best thing is you can shoot 28 gram loads as slow as 1200 fps, which equates to comfy recoil.

Cheers, Vince

I gota agree with this! But also try loads you'll hunt with after the light stuff so the POI etc dont change. Also take a sub-guage for a challenge.

Double-trap was off the hook fun yesterday! "DEAD PAIR!" Love it when the caller says that. Very Happy We shot Annie Oakley too...4 boxes up in smoke and my eye is comiing back'ish as I can now call all my misses.

Git some quackers man!!!

I already put Bertha away until late season and that was the 12ga kicking my a$$. No close by trap ranges and it's kinda hard to throw and shoot clays. Just got to get the rust knocked out of the eyes and joints. Sorry stoves no bruises, my shoulder is pretty conditioned from all the recoil therapy, just a bit tender. I am done with the shoot and release program for the year, I gave em a chance now the game is on. Saturday morning there will be six dead ducks, with another six to follow their fate Sunday morning.

good on you bud. if you still having trouble by mid morning chuck an open choke in and use more pellets/ smaller size eg #3 or #4 and you might just get back in the game. I use imp cyl for the start of the season and put the mod in later when my eyes improove.

I can only give the advise my (older) huntingfriend gave me when we started at doves together: "Keep on shooting, one day you will hit them!" Smile

And he proved himself right. We have a very strange head that will remember the view once you hit something and it will help to reproduce this.
I'm not such guy who believes in clay-pigeon-practise. I know to many friends who are good shots at clays, but bad at hunting. In my opinion it only helps to make yourself familiar with your rifle so that bringing it to your shoulder is going smooth and right.
At clays you have too much time to think. Even now at hunting, on easy things where you have plenty of time to aim, most of the time it's going to scare game but not hit it.

doesn't switching to a tighter choke mean you end up with more pellets in your meat at dinner?

Aloys, I'm impressed. Clays with a rifle!

change it into shotgun Smile
on the other hand my father used to tell me that in his time, when it still was not dangerous to shoot a .22 LR in the air, he knew at least 2 men who could hit with a .22 LR a little thing of about 2" size trown into the air...

I agree and disagree.

Shooting clays? Not sure about your traps but ours? There's no time to think....it's reflexive and intuitive. Clays are great for engraining that intuitve relationship between you and your shotgun.

The actual taking of game? Yes, agreed, clays and game shooting are not the same for me and I find little if any carry-over and I think it's false billing to say sporting clays imitates game shooting blah blah blah...bunk.
