Everyone is right in their individual opinions and no one is wrong...according to the specific uses. Shotguns for moving game depend far more on fit and balance along with fluid tracking and follow-through than that little bead on the end. When used for slugs, all bets are off. That's when any and all precision help is called for, whether it means a dot-type sight, quality open sights or scopes.

Aloys, thanks for the tips. Looks like I'm only learning how to use a shotgun in a tactical situation vs hunting.

SSL, I've been getting pretty good with slugs with just the front bead. I wasn't very good at first but now have confidence out to 50 yards. I mixed my birdshot and slugs up last match and hit a 5" high ram dead center in the back. I got DQ'd but was pretty proud just the same.

Still learning no matter how old you get. Or is there and ang limit to learning, Bushy?

What would you say to something like a hologram sight

Vince, just to be sure you understand...... my statement about sighting devices was in regards to tactical style shooting.
As far as using a shotgun in a traditional manner (wing shooting, clay target disciplines) no aiming only pointing !!!
Both eyes open hard focus on your target.

This shotgun is marketed for turkey and 3-gun which are basically aimed. Buy nature of its design, your eye is 2.5 inches above the bore so I doubt it would point well with the sights removed.

Slim, this could be a hindrance in obtaining the highest level of accurate speed shooting !!!

Shooting Tip;
In your practice you should determine to what distance your capable of just point shooting.
Your times will be faster anytime you can point shoot........a timer will prove this.

slim all my shottys have a front bead and I know where the "rear sight" is even if there is nothing really there. eg my bro in laws baikal s/s you have to be really down hard on the stock or you will shoot way high. the bead will be just above the rear of the rib. I have tried 2 bead ribs and just cant do it, it just doesnt look right. I have had one of those flash tubes that glow in place of a bead... tried to shoot clays and found I was aiming and couldnt hit much so took it off and shot with bare rib and wahlah problem solved. I do aim my shotguns but only on stationary targets, plucking the head off a bunny at 10 yrds and under is quite good fun, if you hit anywhere else its stuffed for the pot and even the dogs dont like that gritty bite of pellets.
bottom line if it suits you and it works go for it. as you have said you can remove the sights and try both ways.

I'm not saying that it can't be done, and a lot of hunters do well with it, but many shotguns (smooth-bore) that get tried for slugs don't print them close enough to the bead's POA for satisfactory use. That's when good adjustable sights, scopes and etc. are a blessing.

I finally got to see one of these shotguns at a local shop last week. I was impressed. Light weight, shouldered well. They only had 5-shot mags. However, larger capacity mags, accessories, and modifications are available from Fire Precision.
