went to a auction today. advertized 308 enfield jungle carbine. got there not really expecting much. sure enough a ishapore india no 1 mk III enfield in jungle carbine type wood {not a nick or scratch} with a flash suppessor held on by a allen screw, a oversized rubber shock pad obviously not original. what to me appeared to be a .311 bore. no matching numbers anywhere and terrible ishy paint on the metal and the ishy screw in the stock.

it was sold as a original 308 jungle carbine for 280 dollars {i bid 50} i tried to tell the auctioneer it was a copy and was informed to shut the {BEEP} up.

i personally like the copies. i even own a jungle enfield factory sported to be simular to a jungle carbine in 303.

my problem is a named auction service for the area would stoop so low as to sell a obvious copy as a original { i expected to spend 700 dollars for a good 308 jungle carbine}

i didnt slap him.

i wanted to.

Spacedone,

I dont know whats worse them auctioning off a rifle as something its not, or auctioning a UNSAFE weapon. Shocked

The No.1 Mk.III recievers were found to be too weak to handle 308Win/7.62x51mm NATO pressures hense why they used No.4 Mk1 rifles to convert to 308Win not the No.1 MkIII Smile

The Indian 2A1's that LOOK like the original No.1 MkIII (as they were patterned off it) were newly built rifles RE-designed to take the pressures. Smile

Dimitri

your right

alot of 308s were made using new materials on old designs.

i wanted it because im a enfield collector {well i own 5}

the wood looked new.

the flash suppessor was one of the newer add ons. i looked at it for over 20 minutes and didnt find a single matching number.

my point is they sold a obvious copy as a real collectors item. thats after myself and another person showed several people why it was a copy. the auctioneer was so pointedly going to sell the gun as oriiganal that he on a open mic told me to shut the {BLEEP} up.

if your going to buy a milsurp YOU need to know about what your wanting to buy..
