|
I asked for a Turkish Coffee, at a "Aroma Espresso" in a mall here in Toronto.
I get served this ...
I sit down with my and my girlfriends drinks, I smell it, smelled like water, I get up, ask them ... "what is this?"
Girl ... "It's Turkish coffee"
Me ... "It's not Turkish coffee"
Girl ... "It is"
Me ... "That is not how you make Turkish coffee"
Girl ... "We take the coffee powder and mix it with hot water"
At this point I was about to either toss it across the counter or tell her she's a moron. But I turned around and left the cup at the table untouched.
So I post it on their Twitter account. Sure enough, they reply "Sorry it may not have bee up to par. Please DM details/where and your email so we can follow up."
Up to par? Are you kidding me, that cup of swill barely qualifies as coffee let alone what it was described as. And it's their corporate instructions on how to make the stuff that are at fault.
Seriously, how friggen hard is it to make a real Turkish coffee?
Okay sure, as a Greek I've seen plenty of people boil the coffee wrong in my life, it does take some skill, but seriously, mixing virgin never brewed coffee powder with hot water qualifying as coffee?
This is real Turkish Coffee by the way, coffee ground to a powder, like espresso, but boiled in a small pot for just the right amount of time ...
That is all ...

LOL
Much the reason I bring my own coffee with me whenever I went to China.
They serve watered down cordial rather than coffee in most places.

Dimitri. While in Crete I enjoyed the French Press coffee. Your view on that?

French Press coffee ... is good, more consistent taste from your grind, then say a drip based coffee machine that can turn coffee into water quick if not prepared well (ie putting enough ground coffee in the filter!).
Although nowadays, in Greece it's served the same way like Vietnamese serve French coffee, with a single use filter over your cup.
It is more hygienic.

I'll settle for a cup of trail coffee any day. I found out I don't like espresso - it always tastes burnt. I guess I like coffee like my chocolate, thick, rich but unburnt.

I always wondered why it smelled so good - rich and sweet and then tastes like coffee. I guess it must be similar to vanilla. It smells so good and tastes so bitter - you have to add the sweetener and then it tastes like it smells.

Yep; I've never understood drinking coffee without sugar.
Italian blend for me - made strong enough to dissolve metal.
