Spent about an hour at the range today just checking loads and zero on these two rifles. I think I have some keepers.
This first target shows three shots at 100 yards measuring .5" center to center using the Rem. Mod. Seven with Barnes 120gr.TSX bullets over 45.5gr. of H414.

This next target shows three shots at 100 yards measuring .40" center to center using the Tikka T-3 S.S. Lite with Horn. 220gr. RN bullets over 55.8gr. of RL-19.

This next target also shows the Tikka with three shots at 100 yards using 168gr. Barnes TSX bullets over 58.8gr. of H4350.

Big Blue,
That is how a rifle is supposed to act. Good shooting and two good rifles. Now go find a critter and teach it to do the wobbly dance.
Best,
Ed

Thanks Guys! I was real happy with these latest results. The 220gr. Hornady RN have a sectional density of .331 and while sectional density isn't a guaranty of performance, I remember reading an article about them years ago comparing their penetration from a .30-06 to that of a .375 H+H using 270gr. bullets. I was also very happy to find a load the Rem. Model Seven liked. The 120gr. bullets are a bit light in the .260, but I have faith in the Barnes TSX bullets.

Not too light at all. I commonly kill white tail deer with a 80 grain bullet in my .243.

My next gun will be a .260 Rem and will probably use no more than the 120 grain bullet for muley's and elk. We'll see though when the time comes.

tcknight,
That sounds encouraging. Even with 120gr. bullets in the .260, it should penetrate about the same as a 165gr. .30 bullet.

YOU GOTTA LOVE THAT MODEL SEVEN. I have one I rebarreled to a 22-243.
Using an 85 gr Sierra boattail bullet and Alliant RL22, I can knock down any deer within 500 yards. My friend was here for deer season used the 22-243 and killed a white tail deer one shot at 325 yards. (used a nikon rangefinder).

Good luck with your model seven--I will never sell or trade mine.
