did someone forget the 12ga. lots of them around heaps of loads in circulation not hard to adapt them just drop a kids marble in instead of the pellets etc.dont give much problems and they have seen lots of military service too.

My thoughts exactly King...

If you gotta go door-to-door in a SHTF situation lookin for guns or ammo, yer prolly gonna find .22's and 12's.

These days you CAN get 150yd. performance from SOME of them, but you get 50 yd performance from ALL of them in ALL situations....

Taurus has the Judge.
I have done a lot of shooting with them, but don't own one-----yet.

They would be one heck of a gun for that type of use.
Swap every other round with either a .45 Colt and a .410, and I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of it.
The .410 shoots one heck of a tight pattern that would put quit a hole in a person.

Eric
PS:
Off topic, but I just brought home a Sig P220 9mm in great shape for only $250.00.
Couldn't pass it up. Very Happy

The Judge is great.

Don't own one yet, but will soon.

A friend at a gun shop let me shot one loaded as ElyBoy described, 3, 45 Colt Long; and 2, .410 3 inch loaded with 5 00 Buckshot.

Amazing revolver.

Now thats not something you find everyday !!!

Are those the old style (German) with the mag release on the bottom of the mag well ?

That is exactly what it is. German Mag release and all. Under the slide, in front of the trigger guard is a bunch of letters, and below them it says made in Germany.
Serial Number is G 132140.

The Pistol has been in the used gun case at Gander for almost a year.
They knocked the price down from $449.00 to $349.00 around 6 months ago, and it still sat there.
I finally asked to hold it, and it functioned like a new gun, but the outside had some holster wear on it, which kept the people away.
A few weeks ago, it was gone, and I figured that some smart guy had purchased it, but it returned last week. It must have been put on lay-by, but the guy backed out.
NOW it was my turn to pounce, and I talked to the Dept. Manager, and got the deal that I wanted.

Looking it up on the net over the past weeks, it looks like these P220 9mms are hard to find because Sig went to the .45 instead. I also see that extra mags. are hard to come by, but I think that I have found a Company that sells Military surplus with the mags for only $25.00. I have an email sent to make sure of this.

I think that besides being a lot of fun to shoot, it's a very reliable gun, and also kind of a collectors item, in that few are found floating around anymore.

Am I correct on my observations Chamber??

Eric

Yes, they are hard to find !!!
I've never seen one or herd of anyone that owns one.
Your a lucky man to get it for the price you did.

The 220 was first built as a 9MM for the Swiss army.

Because of it's strength it was considered for 38 Super and 45 ACP.

As we all know the 45 did come about.

I've heard that 38 Supers are out there but have never been able to confirm.
Given the chance to own one in 38 Super............................... Very Happy

You could probably rebarrel a 45 into the 38 special as the case head is only 20 thou smaller so it just may work. Smile

Dimitri, Big difference between a Super and a Special !!!

A super is capable of 1300+ FPS with the heavy bullets.
With +P loads a special is still under 1000 FPS.

Also because of the overall length with a 38 special you would have to limit yourself to full wadcutter target bullets in a semi.

Smith and Wesson made a model 52 wadcutter pistol in the 60’s and 70’s.
Hard to find but out there.
That would be the way to go if you wanted a 38 special semi-auto !!!

By the way, according to a older Blue Book I have, 220’s were available in:
22LR, 38 Super, 7.65mm, 9mm para, and 45 ACP.

Can't understand why I never saw this befor !!! Embarassed

Woops! Embarassed

I am alittle in the dark sometimes when it comes to pistol rounds I guess. Embarassed

I'll rephrase what I said, if you opened up the bolt (if its even required) of a 9mm P220 you can get a 30 Super to work with a barrel swap. Very Happy

I've been eyeing one for a while myself, but...

IF you were to run outta ammo and need to "find" more, you'd be hard pressed to find either in a SHTF situation (unless you can shoot your way INTO Gander Mountain)....

Plus I can kill birds with the majority of 12 guage ammo I find if I need food, the Judge would be quite a bit more difficult.....

Hunter, I have two tactical 12 gauge ready to go, about a 1000 rounds, in a SHTF situation. And, if I am in a city or searching deserted homes for goods of any kind that would be my first choice. In any other situation I would prefer to use a rifle, to keep the supposed enemy as far away from me and my family as possible. I guess my belief stems from the training I received prior to my attendance at the University of Vietnam.

It, worked great for me there, and I suspect the same will hold true here.

I honestly hope that we never see a SHTF situation, more so for my kids and grand kids than me. But, I cannot just go on with a hope and a prayer. I want to be positioned to weather the storm, and keep my family safe.
