Anyone use Red Dot in pistol loads? I was able to pick up a large quantity of Red Dot from a friend. Just looking for experiences with this powder. I have never tried it because I have been stuck in my ways and stuck to tite group.

I have used red dot in 357 and 38 spl loads. It was a bit dirty and wasn't accurate in my Ruger so I dropped it. I was using light loads so it may not be the powder - just my loads.
I can't imagine you being happy with Red Dot after using Tite Group - I believe you will notice a loss of accuracy with it.
But then every gun is different and you may get a great deal of fun out of it.

Lately I have been using only red dot for my target shooting 38spl load, shot on my SW686.
I use 165gn lead boolits, and 3.5 grain Red dot to print nice group of holes on my target.
YMMV

One of the top .45 Colt loads is 6.0 grains of Red Dot under a 250-255 grain lead bullet. This pretty well duplicates original black-powder velocities and pressures. It's a pleasant load to shoot but still packs a pretty good wallop on the receiving end.

I've also used it in the .45 Colt for Cowboy loads.

I think I am going to try and work up a few 45 ACP rounds this weekend.

Watch out. SSL had me going. His load is for .45 Colt and is over the max for a 45 ACP (where the max load is only 4 grs?)

For .45ACP

4.5gr of Red Dot behind either a 200gr LSWC or 230gr LRN or 230gr Berry's plated RN works just fine.

We were using 4.7gr but dropped the charge for commonality without any reduction in accuracy or reliable functioning in several different 1911's.

I've gone through a couple of thousand rounds so far & no issues.

That would be quite a pressure-test load! Not recommended! Jaw Drop

I always start low and work up! I like my guns. I do have a LARGE supply of Red Dot, around 12 pounds. That should keep me busy for quite a while.

It's the go-to powder for wadcutter bullseye shooters & shotgunners if i recall.

12 pounds! I can see Mr. 111 now down at the motor-pool with a pair of channel locks snaggin' wheel weights for his meltin pot! He casts a mean bullet too, people.

My boolit supply for the 45acp is down to 2 coffee cans right now, and only about 400 - 500 pounds of lead. Time to go wheeling and dealing for lead.

Had a buddy up in Cedar Rapids score a 2800lb skid of Linotype lead and he offered me 1/2 which I bought and is now at home in the garage covered and treasured.
