The first lawsuit to the Aurora shooting is planned
news.yahoo.com/blogs/l...30871.html
A few suits to be thrown into the mix,
1. For the cinema not to have an alarm or guard on its exit door so the prep could go out and grab his gun.
and
2. to Warner Bros for (ahum) "releasing violent movies that may have inspired the shooter"
3. the suspect's doctors, if he had any, for hypothetically not monitoring James Holmes' mental condition properly.
Why doesn't it surprises me anymore?

Wonder if they had to step over any bodies to secure their clients. Vultures every one of them.

I heard that Warner Brothers and the local hospitals were teaming up to take care of all the medical bills.
Glad someone recognized the movie industry has some responsibilities here.

Would you care to elaborate on what responsibility the movie industry has in this tragedy?
I would be really careful with statements like this. If the movie industry is culpable it's a really slippery slope to gun manufacturers also being culpable.

I dont think the movie industry can bear much blame. I'm betting most of us on here grew up watching westerns and war movies, I know I did, but we aren't out shooting up the general public.

and there in lies the difference from then to now... we had goodies and baddies... not some stuffed up evil looking dude made out to be a hero because he was fighting against the law and shooting civilians , which is the theme alot of modern movies have.
I think the word that needed to be highlighted was "some" responsibility!
we also didnt have playstations and Xboxes to desinsitize us from reality. go and watch some kid playing at stealing cars and killing coppers and then tell me it doesnt look real and has no effect on the mindset.
I hate the way we have allowed this type of crap to become mainstream and acceptable.
sorry off soap box reaching for chamomile tea.

If all the kids are watchingthe same movies and playing the same games and only .01% go out and shoot up the mall - is it really the movies and games? Or is it just the person?
I'm thinking its the person.
It isn't the movies
It isn't the games
It isn't the guns
Its the nut behind the trigger!

Its the idiot "parents" that indulge the kids..
If kids are chastised as soon as they breach, they would develop proper sense of correctness.
Its the idiot law makers that indulge the convicts.
Convicts in jail are "on holiday" nowadays.
They waltz in the jail and high fives their friends, swap stories, shooting breeze and basically do nothing but laze around until they are released.
If they are made to WORK the way the penal system are used to be, they would think twice before risking to go in.
This problem is the result of "civilized" society.

The movies are to blame, just like the gun that kills people and the spoon that makes people fat. We are creatures of choice. I watch wood working shows on TV and that inspires me to get out in the work shop and put something together, or finished what I started, it motivates me. Watching a violent movie sickens me, I hate cop shows because of the violence, murder mysteries and who-done-its for the same reason. I'd say if you're pre-disposed to violence then a movie about it might just motivate you, but like I said we're creatures of choice, we know what's right and wrong, we know what is moral. When a person is skewed toward violence by a movie he's probably also motivated by watching someone argue, or by seeing a fight take place. The person probably has a criminal record of violence and probably has a mental health issue. I'll quit watching cooking shows if they make me want to cook? Instruction vs gory display. If they show pictures of cakes and cookies, does that make me wanna cook? or eat? If they show pictures of dead people, does that make me wanna kill or be sad? If you're mentally not-all-there then you might have a problem with choices. Is it the movie's fault that mentally ill people are watching? Is it the spoons fault? The gun's fault? Mental illness is not learned by watching a movie, it's not learned at all. It's a condition of our society and it just happens.
Don't let it get out or the government will pre-screen all movie goers of mental health issues to watch a cooking show. Yahoo will quit advertising spoons for sale.
As Geland suggested our penal system is in need of re-vamping also. If the mentally ill could figure a few things out, they would think about their choices, and the thing is, they're mentally ill, they don't care about choices or even they're own lives when they choose to be violent, that's all they know.
I watched 3hrs of Joseph Campbell seminars today and I'm goin for more. I have all his books but watching him and listening to his stories is so much better than reading. He influences my mental health and my understanding of the world, he was a great teacher of philosophy. I'm getting loopy on it though, not mentally ill, just loopy. Where's my spoon..
