Yepper- Red Tide- caused by more than one reason. Kinda nasty. Depends on the toxin levels. Sea lions get grumpy and snap at feet when surfing and even charge bathers on shore....scary. Fish go belly up, ear infections abound, etc. Soemtimes the bloom will wipe out a ton of jellys, then the fun really starts. most our jelly's are pretty mild, but still sting. Not like the Box jelly in Oz...ill sucker will put your lights out that quick. Why is everythign in Ozzyland so damn dangerous- snakes, jelly's, trees....

These algal blooms are nasty mate. We get them out here as well. I remember reading somewhere that they may be linked to an excess of phosphate fertilizer run-off, or an excess of nutrients, into the ocean...dunno though. They can also create skin problems with swimmers if you happen to blunder into one. You will sometimes find a similar occurrence in fresh water as well...nasty nasty nasty.

We do have a few nasty things out here to keep an eye out for don't we Stovey...makes life interesting mate.

Cheers, Vince
