Ain't that the truth Pete...and it isn't just USA...many countries are in this position because of the large multi-national companies.

The populance are not cash cow, and eventhough the govt knew it, they ain't doing anything about it but raising more taxes.

A couple million gallons of hot tar, and rails, and rope. I don't think I want to kill enough wild birds for all the feathers we need, but perhaps the chicken farms have enough.

The only way out of this is to outlaw becoming a politician as a career, but the sad truth is there are enough idiots in the world to keep electing the same idiots that have brought us this wonderful mess.

Hope I didn't offend anyone.

That my friend is actually a bloody good idea.
We could give them that or decimation as options and see which one they pick.

Pay the politicians the average wage of the people they represent, make their retirement the same as those they represent (Social security in the states), make their medical the same as those they represent (medicare in the states), and limit terms to once in a lifetime. In one year medicare would be the best medical system in the world and Social security wouls be paying ten times what it does today.

Add to the changes that when in office they have to rent their homes (even the president) and they can use the office (and white house) only during business hours.
Housing costs would come down and we could save a ton of money that would actually benefit the economy and us.
Maintain a zero deficit policy and credit limit. The military would stay at home protecting our borders and citizens and fewer people would be needed in the military. The only industries that would actually suffer would be the lobbyists and the mortuaries.

Democracy sucks but not as much as every other option. Read Ike's memoirs. He knew what was coming. If you base a whole economic system on greed eventually the most greedy rise to the top and by definition they wouldn't give a thirsty man a drop of water unless he pays for it. The credit system has been used in the past to enslave fishermen, loggers, coal miners, farmers and the list goes on. Get in, get the maximum profit and get out and let the small investor lose his/her shirt is how you make the most money now. The other way is to start a war, milk it for every tax dollar you can and then wrap yourself in a flag and call yourself a patriot.
