45/70 cases too short to crimp

That is a damn fine idea mate...never gave that a thought, but you are totally correct...case length is not an issue with the FCD. I'll give meself a bag full of uppercuts for missing that one.

Still...make sure all your cases are the same length for consistency.

Yes I have had a lot of fun shooting gophers with mine. They disintegrate most of the time. Very Happy

No need for uppercuts Vince, besides you might open up those stitches and I hope that's healing nicely. Smile

I use the FCD on my 35 remington (Marlin 336) as well.

The Lee Factory crimp die probably would solve the problem . As for the Dies , It is Hornady that is making the brass shorter for that bullet , so I would call them as ask if they have a crimp die for the shorter brass.

Good morning all, Went to local gun store over the weekend. The kid at the counter stared like a pig poisoned when I asked about anything besides AR's. I love AR's too. But, I need Buffalo bullets! He said he'd try to get me a Lee crimp die(LCD). After he said "what cal. was that again", for the third time I figured I better get it myself. So I ordered it right from Lee less than $20.00. Now for some molds- a 300gr and 405 to get started. Almost got some from Lee but I have some in .357 already that get too hot too quick so I'll get RCBS. Those Hornady cases are growing a little but they will separate before they ever get to trim length. So I'll be needin more cases too. Hee-Haw! this gun is fun though! Of course I don't see many Buff's these days but I know where some mighty big woodchucks roam so I'm "plannin a hunt" for the late spring. Seein how we eat what we kill I don't want to be vaporizing them but in the name of science a few may have to go to Coyote supper. I imagine a well centered hit with a big load will indeed vaporize one too. Startin to think cowboy hats. Is this a sign?:<) Any advice and/or helpful hints will be appreciated. Thanks again

You never do experiments with other dies? When I reload .45 ACP on my Dillon, the last step is the bullet-seating-die-with-innerparts-removed of a 7x64. It gives a nice tapercrimp + removes that dent the bullet makes on the thin walls of the .45 ACP case.
I never tried it on the 45 Government (don't need it with a Ruger N°1), but it could also work, or with the bullet-seating-die of a .270 Win, a .280 Rem or a 30-06.

Actually Al, I'm not sure if your askin' me or tellin' me. But, no, never swapped out parts in dies except for rnd vs fl nose bullts in pistol loads. I don't load those ctgs. except 45ACP(on a dillon). Anyway, I bought the die now. sides, Not so sure a taper crimp would be enough to hold a full throttle 500+ gr hard cast. Don't wanna find out either... Quick subject change- What is best size for pictures. Probably use picnik to resize. Like to be able to post pics if needed. After much fiddling I got an Avatar up. I'm not real good with `puter's. Thanks. Anybody shooting the Hornady 350 gr round nose bullet in their 1895's?. Still a little nervous about a magazine tube full of hotties goin off in my hand. Startin' to notice a bit of recoil as I work up. Thinkin' some 405 to 500 gr loads are gonna be fierce. Hee- Haw! After reading about some of the loads from hell that can be worked up I'm looking forward to some serious fun this summer. Alas, being far from rich, if I want something bad enough, I will work as hard as I can to attain it. And... I want a Buff! Have a great day folks!

Liberty...I downloaded this from the web (its FREE) and it is all I use to resize my pics that I load on here. I "right click" on the pic, go to Prish, then resize the pic to "640" and it saves a copy as a VGA. It is a simply "powertoy" for Windows and is not at all difficult to use. If I can use it anyone can mate...I'm as dumb as a box of hammers. Very Happy

Yep I use the 350 gr hornady round nose all the time. Here's a target from when I had a scope on my 45-70.
