It seems that there is a new record for a long distance kill by a military sniper!

Thanks for the alert. This is very impressive and I've read that the bullet fall at this distance is around 100m.

I assumed this was a .50-cal. It was a .338, WOW!! Now I want to know what bullet he was using and what it's BC was. I assume it was a .338 Lapua for the cartridge.

Accuracy International built .338 Lapua !!! They do make it in a 300 Wimp Mag for those who haven't figured it out.........yet !!!

From another Forum, for those that want the details :-
The MOD claims a muzzle velocity of 936 m/s (3,071 ft/s) for the L115A3.
This implies the British military are using a high pressure load to attain this muzzle velocity.
Internal ballistic software predicted that a typical military .338 Lapua Magnum load using Lapua LockBase B408 bullets at an overall cartridge length of 91.44 mm (3.600 in) produces ≈ 460 MPa (66,833 psi) maximum piezo chamber pressure to achieve the claimed 936 m/s (3,071 ft/s) muzzle velocity.

wy111, thanks for the extra details. Now I'm even more impressed. A bullet with a .662 BC went this far!?! I would have guessed the bullet had a better BC than that. The Canadians use the Hornady A-Max in their .50-cals with a BC slightly better than 1.0.

Slim, Some years back I followed a series of articles on the development of the Chey-tac cartridge. I remember reading about how they went to some proving grounds somewhere in order to test bullets through a radar system.
As I recall the bullets were considered classified and very little information was given on them.
I often wondered if that technology would find it's way into the shooting sports...........maybe it has......maybe it hasn't......sure would of enjoyed reading more on the subject.

Slim, Get a chance look up "Lost River Technologies" and their "Balanced Flight" bullets.
It seems as though this is what I was reading about !!!
