are you going to get yourself one of those new PSEs that go atop an AR. They have some power!! I also heard you have to shot at targets greater than 70 yards away if you don't want to be splitting your own arrows - now thats accuracy!!

Shrpshtrjoe just curious, what kind of range do you get out of that? From what I've heard a crossbow won't shoot as far as a regular compound bow. Is that true or not? A compound crossbow with the short bolt it seems would shoot as far. I used to live in Az. and you can use one for javalina and think that's about it, but I was never into bows. Sounds like fun to me now though.

They will shoot as far as a compound. I don't personally shoot over 40 yards with mine because I wont try and take a deer farther than that with it. It' probably capable of it though it shoots around 300 fps. I have a multi range scope with cross hairs at 20-30-40-yds and it's very accurate out to 40yds. Here's a pic of mine and some Bolts I wrapped and fletched Very Happy

WOW that looks like a go-getter. Nice technical look to the bolts. The last deer I got with my gun was about 30-40 yds. I dunno though, one thing that gets me about arrows is, I've never seen an animal drop dead from one. I've seen them run like crazy, but not drop. A neighbor of mine guides Elk hunts, with a bow and his stories about them hunting the animal after the shot sound harrowing and dangerous. His last one though was kinda weird, they were lookin all over for it and decided to sit and wait for a while, they happened to be sitting right next to it and didn't know it till they heard it snort it's last breath. He said it scared him, he jumped up and shot it with his pistol, they were only about 50ft from it's hiding spot under a bush. It didn't move after that so he figured it was dead before he shot it with his gun. I still think it would be fun though, adding an extra bit of excitement to a hunt.

Nice set up Joe, Did you use the wraps that have the fletch built right in? and you dunk them in hot water to keep them in place? I bet that 10 Point set you back a few bills!! Michigan still has their thumbs up their butts when it comes to cross bows for deer hunting. they are letting us use them but we have to get a cross bow permit and keep it with us while useing it. Its free of charge but I think stupid. The son and I have found alittle something out that made our shooting ALOT more accurate. We purchased rope cocking devises and it vastly improved our accuracey. the string was pulled straight back instead of being pulled alittle more to the right or left while cocking by hand.

Those wraps didn't have the fletch built in. There kinda like stickers the the Nap Twisters glued up nice to them. Ya these Ten Points are a bit pricey this one is one of the cheaper models and I think I payed $600 for it it's bin a year or two Confused memory ain't what it used to be Very Happy . I have though about getting one of those rope cockers..

Its cheap back relief (it reduces the effort in cocking)and it does insure that its cocked straight back. I have a PSE Viper and it was $300.00 + bolts and a scope. When done I hade almost $600.00 invested. My son has a Horton, cant remember what model, but it is a nice Xbow, He is very proficieant with it as well. His came in a Kit ready to assemble and shoot, complete with a red dot scope.
We shoot so much archery we have started to buy our own bare carbon shafts and build our arrows and bolts.
What broad head are you gonna use? We are useing "Puckets blood trailers" I have had for quit a while.

Good luck this deer season Joe.

NC made crossbows legal for everyone this year too, instead of just for handicapped. I might have to look into this.
